Graham, NC (March 13, 2010) - Weather woes continue to plague the Egolf Amateur Golf Tour. Starting in absolutely perfect weather conditions, it looked like the Tour was finally going to get in an event not marred by rain, snow, or unseasonably cold temperatures. However, just as most groups were finishing their first 9 holes, clouds suddenly blew in and the skies opened up. The rain persisted throughout the remainder of the round.
Two Championship Flight members, Heath Allison of Graham, and Advance's Gene Queen were undaunted by the wet, soggy conditions. Both fired 1-under par 71s. Normally the tie would have been broken by a sudden-death shootout on the course, but after trying one hole in the playoff format, conditions became unplayable and the decision was made to determine the winner by card playoff. Allison emerged the victor based on his back-nine score. Park Williams finished alone in 3rd with a 77.
In the C Flight, Tour veteran Mike Bryant of Greensboro secured his initial career Tour victory with a 92. He enjoyed a 1-shot edge over Winston-Salem's Jason Smith, and 2 shots beyond Jack Frazier of Clemmons. Bryant said "first one", as he held his 1st-place trophy glass.
Darrell Hicks of Winston-Salem endured a tough start in his first Tour event earlier this year - "I just let the nerves get to me", said Hicks, but he held it together today. His 81 was tops in the B Flight, 2-strokes clear of both Laurinburg's Robin Neverve and Winston-Salem's Darren Martin.
Burlington's Ben Shipley was the only A Flight member to break 80, as his 79 took top honors. Rob Andrews of Jamestown came in second with an 82, while Greensboro's Gerald Lewis and Eden's Steve Alf carded 83s.
"We had a nice mix of Tour veterans and new guys out here today", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "With new recruits coming in each week it has added 'new blood' to the Tour and kept the oldtimers on their toes".
