ROARING GAP GOLFER EARNS 1ST EGOLF TOUR WIN

Mount Airy, NC (April 24, 2010) - Adolph Shepardson of Roaring Gap bettered his previous lowest Egolf Tour score by 9 strokes Saturday at Cross Creek Country Club with an 82 to earn his 1st career Tour victory. The C Flight Tour member mentioned "I had a 91 at Salisbury Country Club (on the Charlotte Tour) - that was my best so far up to this point". Shepardson's scoring effort was helped greatly by the eagle - 3 he logged on the 469 yard, par 5, 1st hole.
That eagle was one of 3 turned in by Tour members on the Cross Creek layout. Lawsonville's Tate Rogers matched Shepardson's effort on the 1st hole with an eagle of his own that helped him take the A Flight crown with a 77, while Greensboro's Robin Gomez carded his eagle on the par 5, 509 yard, 11th.
Gomez finished in the 2nd spot in the B Flight, finishing 2 strokes behind Reidsville's Ray Schenkel. Schenkel was competing in his 1st B Flight event after receiving a "battlefield promotion" from the C Flight. "I knew Ray was ready for the move up to 'B' " stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck.
Another impressive score that determined a spot "in-the-money" was the birdie-3 recorded by Greensboro's Ken Carlyle on the 2nd hole of his sudden death playoff with Thomasville's Dan Anthony to determine the Championship Flight winner. When Carlyle's putt dropped on the number 1 handicap hole, the 467 yard, 18th, it gave Carlyle his 1st Tour win as well.
"Big shots at the right time determined a lot today", said Hallenbeck. "That's what Tour competition is all about".
