Pinehurst, NC (June 19, 2010) Juan Sanders would probably be voted "Rookie-of-the-Year" on the Egolf Amateur Golf Tour if such a poll were taken. The Fayetteville resident has tasted victory in 3 of his 7 starts on-Tour in his first year of competition. His latest win occurred Saturday at The Pit Golf Links as he blitzed the field with a 2- under 70.
"I've been working on my swing all year", said Sanders. "Playing on this Tour has helped my game immeasurably. I come out expecting to win". When told that his recent successes may move his Tour handicap into Championship Flight range, Sanders was nonplussed: "I'm long enough to play from the tips". Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck added: "Seeing as he was playing from the same tees as the Championship Flight today he would have won even if he was competing with the big-boys. I like his confidence and chances if and when he gets promoted".
Speaking of the Championship flight, Bob Christenson of Fuquay-Varina made his 2010 debut a successful one as he posted a 74 for a one-shot margin over Mark Macejko of Vass. Christenson, a past Major Championship winner on-Tour had not had an opportunity to tee it up this season until Saturday.
Ramseur's Mike Hindmarsh, who has also enjoyed past success on Tour, took top honors in the B Flight with a 79, while Fayetteville's Johnny Sears took home his first winner's trophy in the C Flight with an 83.
