Bermuda Run, NC - (March 7, 2009) Lexington's James Goin led a field of 22 players in the Championship Flight to grab 1st place in the Egolf Amateur Golf Tour event at Bermuda Run West CC Saturday. Goin's 1-over 71 on the 6,625 yard track bested Fuquay Varina's Bob Christenson and Gene Queen of Advance by a single stroke. Goin was a model of consistency, as he posted only 2 birdies for the winning score.
Greensboro's Robert Everhart fired a 73 to cruise to victory in the A Flight by a 6-stroke margin over Reidsville's Steve Cummings. Randleman's Bobby Elder rounded out the top three with an 80.
The B Flight saw history made as Winston-Salem's Brian Yokley shot the lowest score ever in the 11 year history of the Tour with a 71, and an unbelievable 11- stroke rout of 2nd and 3rd place finishers Steve Tracey of High Point and Jeff Silver of Durham. Yokley's effort earned him a "battlefield promotion" directly to the A Flight.
"Actually, we'll be watching Brian's progress closely, because I think he has the talent to play Championship Flight if his game continues to show such promise", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck.
Not to be outdone, Jack Frazier of Clemmons made sure all four flights had low winning scores, as his 83 took top honors in the C Flight. Even though his 83 was a very low score for C Flight play, he needed every stroke as Greensboro's Cuong Ton was only one back in 2nd place. Jesse Ingle's broke out of a 3-way tie for third to nip Pittsboro's Mike Thomas and Bart Roberts of Reidsville jn a card playoff after all three posted 86s.
"We still have over 20 events on the schedule for this season", stated Hallenbeck. "I expect to see a bunch of new members joining in the near future". Any amateur golfer interested in information regarding the Tour can call Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556, or email him at behgolf@aol.com.
