Winston-Salem, NC (April 9, 2011) - About 70 (out of a total field of 80) hale and hearty souls who started the Golfweek Amateur Tour event at Meadowlands Golf Course stuck it out until rain and the threat of lightning finally made finishing an impossible task. While virtually every group finished at least 14 holes, because of the shotgun start, competitive scores had to be calculated based on the exact holes that every member of each flight had completed.
"I certainly can't fault anyone who left this event early, because the conditions got really bad in a short period of time" said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "After we came in for the first dangerous weather break, I really didn't expect that many guys to return to play".
Despite the abbreviated play, the combined pool of prizes and skins that exceeded $2,500.00 was awarded to the top finishers. In addition points for the season-long Points Standings race will be awarded according to normal standards.
"The winning scores average range was low to mid 40s in a majority of the flights" said Hallenbeck. He jokingly added "probably career lows for most of these guys - but they don't have to worry - I'm not going to use these numbers to help calculate their Tour handicaps".
