EDEN'S WALKER EARNS EGOLF PROMOTION Graham, NC (June 6, 2009) - The Challenge Golf Club has always lived up to it's name when hosting an Egolf Tour event over the past ten years. High scores are generally the norm in Tour play. That's one of the things that made Chris Walker's round so impressive Saturday. Playing in the C Flight, the Eden resident, who in 6 Tour events this season had a scoring average of 90.2, fired a 79 to run away with 1st place in the field. Walker's margin of victory was an amazing 9 strokes better than the 2nd and 3rd place finishers - Winston-Salem's Austin Craven and Mark Harders of Raleigh. As a matter of fact, Walker's total was lower than that of the B Flight champ, David Schmanke of Apex who shot an 80. "This is Chris' 1st year on-Tour, it just took him awhile to catch his stride", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "He strikes the ball like a real player. He'll be displaying that ability in the B Flight for future Tour competition". Bob Christenson of Fuquay-Varina and Winston's Mark Robinson had to play a little extra golf to determine a Championship Flight winner. Playing from the back tees, they both turned in regulation scores of 77. Christenson made short work of the playoff, as Robinson failed to make par from the middle of the fairway on their 1st playoff hole while Christenson did par from out of the rough. Burlington's Ben Shipley shot the lowest score of the tournament (76), and nipped 2 Raleigh players, Greg Grabus and William Gwinn by a single stroke to grab top honors in the A Flight. "The season is approximately halfway over with this event", said Director Hallenbeck, but we had six new members "tee-it-up" today. There's still a lot of golf left to be played this season.
