EGOLF TOUR "GRADUATE" WINS AT CAROLINA TRACE!

Sanford, NC (August 9, 2008) - It was barely 2 months ago that Joe Durrance of Carrboro was having a hard time breaking into the top 3 in the B Flight, but since a narrow loss in a playoff at the Egolf Tour's last "Major" at Chapel Ridge GC in Pittsboro, Durrance has been on a tear. His consistency enabled him to win a number of times, and due to the low scores he generated, his Tour handicap dropped into A Flight range coming into this week's event at Carolina Trace (The Creek Course). Undaunted by any pressure that might accompany a promotion of this sort, Durrance calmly went out and recorded a win in his first A Flight start.
Durrance's 76 on the par 72, 6,336 yard track was 4-strokes better than a couple of Tour A Flight veterans - Raleigh's Rob Reynolds and Kenny Smith of Randleman. Both of whom have enjoyed winning starts "on-Tour" in past events. "He handled the pressure beautifully", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "Most guys generally don't get off to a quick start in their new flight after a promotion of this nature, but it didn't seem to bother Joe a bit".
As it turned out, Durrance's margin of victory in the A Flight was the largest of the 4 flights in the field today as 2 flights had to go to extra holes for a sudden death playoff to determine the winner, while the remaining flight saw a single stroke victory.
In the Championship Flight Nathan Bailey of Greensboro took one extra hole to nip Selma's Tracey King after both posted regulation 74s. It was also a single hole playoff that deteremined the B Flight winner as Apex' David Schmanke shot 82 and then prevailed over Greensboro's Tim Ward in that playoff. Mike Thomas of Pittsboro continued his impressive play of late, grabbing a C Flight win over Madison's Rus Rilling - 85 to 86.
