Seven Lakes, NC (July 10, 2010) - Evidently Rob Clarke doesn't suffer from "beginner's nerves". Rob started out this year as a Charter Member of the newly formed Chicago Egolf Amateur Tour. All he did there was win the Championship Flight competition in the first two events ever contested in the Windy City.
When family matters entailed his moving to the Raleigh area recently, he was aware that his Chicago membership entitled him to play in any event on any Egolf Tour across the country. He wasted no time in signing up for the Pinehurst Tour's Seven Lakes Country Club event. Once again he showed that he's a fast starter by firing a 1-over 73 on the 6,556 yard track to take top honors in the toughest flight, finishing 2 strokes up on Selma's Tracey King.
"I plan to play in a number of events now that I'm here", stated Clarke.
"Looks like Rob is gonna be one of the guys to beat each week out here if you want to take home the big prize", commented Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck.
Raleigh Tour member Wade Brink of Holly Springs also gave a good showing today as the only A Flight member to break 80 with a 76. Brink was 4 shots clear of his nearest competitor, Winston-Salem's Sonny Cole.
Tour veteran James Earles of Greensboro took home the first place trophy in the B Flight with an 80. "I just dug it out all day" said Earles. "(I) Used my 3-wood exclusively off the tee". Ramseur's Mike Hindmarsh was 4-strokes back.
While the C Flight played from the shorter (6,154 yard) White Tees, Robert Train's score in taking 1st place was still very impressive. He finished 4 shots ahead of fellow Pittsboro resident Dwayne Howard after posting an 80. "That's a really low C Flight score", stated Hallenbeck. "Robert has improved with every event in which he's competed. There's a good chance that this score might raise his Tour handicap to B Flight level. I think he'd be really competitive there as well".
The Egolf Tour, which is open to any amateur golfer, is still accepting new members for the 2010 season. If interested, call Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556, or email him at behgolf@aol.com.
