LANDON WILKES GETS 1ST CAREER EGOLF TOUR WIN

Fuquay-Varina, NC (August 21, 2010) - Four long years of playing a full schedule on the Egolf Amateur Golf Tour and Landon Wilkes of Apex didn't have a single win to show for all his efforts. A few years back he grabbed some 2nd places and a 3rd or two, but never the win. That all changed today at Bentwinds Country Club as his 87 gave him a single stroke victory over Rocky Mount's James Lingo in C Flight competition.
"The last couple years, I've had the demons inside me and I just couldn't find my game", said Wilkes. "Today I changed a few things in my swing, drank water, kept my energy levels up and maintained focus the whole round. I didn't putt that well, but I was happy to start hitting greens again".
When asked what was the best part about finally getting in the winner's circle, Wilkes, who had enjoyed athletic success throughout his younger years simply said: "I proved to myself I can still do it".
Competition was particularly tight throughout the field as the largest margin of victory in any flight was enjoyed by Chapel Hill's Henry Lister in the A Flight with a 2-stroke win over Brad Morris of Four Oaks - 73 to 75. That 73 equaled Lister's best ever performance on Tour which was registered 3 years ago at The Crossings.
Cary's Brent Miller nipped 2 players by a single stroke in taking home the Championship Flight trophy with an even-par 72. Zebulon's Reece Whitley and Selma's Tracey King were right on his heels one back.
The closest race of all was in the B Flight which took an extra hole to decide as both Greensboro's Jeff Posey and Ramseur's Mike Hindmarsh were deadlocked after regulation play with identical 82s. In reality, Posey probably shouldn't have been in a playoff at all, as the "yips" caused him to miss 3 putts during regular play from inside 2 feet. As fate would have it, that's exactly how the playoff ended on the 1st hole of sudden-death with Posey missing his 4th "chippie" of the day from about 15 inches.
"What a great day" said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "While it was hot, it wasn't unbearable like it has been lately, we had close races in every flight, and The Bentwinds course was in as good shape as any we've played in quite some time - especially the greens. A recipe for a good time for everybody. We're coming back here next season".
