Pinehurst, NC (June 21, 2008) - Raleigh’s Greg Grabus, playing in the A Flight, and Fort Bragg’s Mike Tyra – a Championship Flight member, both posted 2-over 74s in the Egolf Amateur Golf Tour event held at the Pit Golf Links Saturday to grab first place in their respective flights.
Grabus, an eight year Tour veteran, had tasted victory a number of times during his Tour career. For Tyra however, this was victory number one in his first year of Tour competition. The margin of victory was relatively comfortable for both players, with Tyra enjoying a 3-stroke edge over Tour newcomer David Van Kula of Raleigh who was playing in his very first Egolf event. Grabus outdistanced Bobby Elder of Randleman in the A Flight by 5 strokes.
Winston-Salem’s Robert Laws, who recently rejoined the Tour after a 2 year absence, shot an 83 which made him a winner in the B Flight by one stroke over Greensboro’s James Earles and Hope Mills’ Mark Cobb. David Schmanke of Apex had the same type of narrow margin of victory in the C Flight, which played from the shorter “Spike†Tees, as he nipped Fayetteville’s Phil Carpenter by one stroke with an 83.
“We had a bunch of new guys place high on the leaderboard recently†stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. “It’s always good to see some fresh faces give our long time members a run for their moneyâ€.
