"HOLE-IN-3" HIGHLIGHTS GOLFWEEK TOUR EVENT

Holly Springs, NC (June 11, 2011) - Chapel Hills' Henry Lister didn't win his flight in the Golfweek Amateur Tour event held at The Club at 12 Oaks. He was however, involved in one of the more remarkable situations in Tour history. Playing in the A Flight, Lister grabbed a 6-iron on the 172 yard, par 3, 3rd hole. He promptly yanked his tee shot left into very thick brush. Fearing that his ball could not be found, he tee'd up a provisional ball, and in true Freddie Couples fashion, holed it out for a par 3. Unlike Freddie, who fired his right at the hole, Lister again pulled it somewhat, only to watch it hit a mound to the left of the green, roll onto the green, and slowly drift down right into the hole. All 3 of his playing partners dropped their jaws and clubs simultaneously and quickly stated "the beer's still on you"! Lister's unlikely par somewhat overshadowed the 75 shot by Randleman's Bobby Elder which won the flight by 2 strokes over - who else? - Lister. Greensboro's Aaron Lawson, like Lister, also posted a 77.
Greensboro's Sean Pardue, playing from the 7,132 yard back tees, took 1st place in the Championship Flight with a 75. Finishing one stroke back was Cary's James Dill and Down-East Tour member Joshua Aaron.
James Earles of Greensboro took top honors in the B Flight with an 80, followed by Raleigh's Tom Vasseur with an 82. Dave Schmanke of Apex rounded out the top 3 with an 84.
After 18 holes, the C Flight wound up in a deadlock with Cary's Michael Doak and Greensboro's Nelson Peterson both shooting 86s. Peterson finished off Doak after Doak found the hazard on their 1st extra hole of a sudden-death playoff. Raleigh's Kenneth Weeks took 3rd.
Raleigh's Prince Dozier won his first Tour event in the D Flight with a 101. Apex' Greg Green was second at 103, while Tony Jenkins of Cary beat Greensboro's Chris Bently in a scorecard playoff for 3rd place.
The next Golfweek Amateur Tour Event is next Saturday, June 18 at Little River Farm in the Pinehurst area. Any amateur golfer interested in playing in that event can call Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556, or email him at behgolf@aol.com.
