2014 GOLFWEEK AMATEUR GOLF TOUR
SATURDAY, MAY 31, 2014
FOXFIRE RESORT & GOLF
----
|
Foxfire Resort & Golf
|
Foxfire Resort and Golf Club features 36 holes of world-class, North Carolina golf. For nearly four decades golfers from across the globe have come to Foxfire, seeking their unique blend of layout, natural beauty and high-quality service.
Hall of Fame architect Gene Hamm designed these 36 holes to take full advantage of the rolling hills, soft sandy soils and plentiful area lakes.
The course you will be playing is the Red Fox.
The Red Fox Course is the member’s favorite. This Pinehurst golf course offers wide manicured fairways and large elevated fast rolling greens. Water comes into play on 6 holes requiring forced carries from the back tees but with the option of going around the hazards from the forward tees.
Fairway bunkers are strategically placed to grab the wayward shot and there is no lack of sand guarding the greens. This beautiful Gene Hamm design offers plenty of “bail out” places to avoid the most severe drop offs and deep faced bunkers.
If you played this course years ago, it is time to return. You will be pleasantly surprised.

"Complete the Great Round You Started Improve Your Golf Mental Toughness 10-fold"
Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf
EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind!
Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly.
-
It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons)
-
It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!).
-
It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf
"When you have a chance to shoot the lowest score of your life, you won't choke - You Will Go Low!"

2 TOUR NEWCOMERS WIN GOLFWEEK MAJOR EVENT AT LITTLE RIVER GOLF & RESORT
Carthage, NC
May 17, 2014
Shannon's Stephen Pippin has been competing on the Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour for about a month.
Playing in his 1st "Major Championship" on-Tour today, his victory assured him of a spot in the 2014 National Championship to be held in Hilton Head in October. That event draws over 800 of the top competitors from the 40 plus Golfweek Tours across the nation.
His 74 gave him a comfortable 5 stroke edge over his two nearest competitors, Patrick Riley of Apex and Fayetteville's Larry Hardee. After firing a 35 on the front side, Pippin missed some putts on the back that cost him an even lower score. "I just left a few short", stated Pippin.
Little River Winners (L to R):
Championship Flight - Stephen Pippin; B Flight - Tom Kubla;
While Pippin dominated the Champ Flight, another Tour rookie enjoyed success in the C Flight competition.
Raleigh's Timon Farley, making his Tour debut, shot an 86 for a 2 stroke flight win. Kurt Bryant of Hope Mills and Fayetteville's Johnny Sears were the runners-up.
Farley also earned an invitation to the Hilton Head event with the victory. "It's good to see 'new-blood' do well early in their Tour careers", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "Keeps 'em coming out".
The three remaining flights were dominated by Tour veterans. Robin Neverve of Laurinburg shot a 75 - 2 shots clear of Raleigh's Spurling Cook for an impressive A Flight win.
Pinehurst's Tom Kubla edged 3 opponents in the B Flight by a single shot with an 81. Greenville's Jimmy Adams, Joe Rollison of Christianburg, VA, and Richard McMinis of Raleigh all needed just one more putt to drop to tie Kubla.
Little River Winner: D Flight - Greg Dotson; (Not Shown: C Flight - Timon Farley; A Flight - Robin Neverve)
In the D Flight it was Richland Virginia's Greg Dotson's turn to shine as he comfortably took the flight with a 90 that was 6 shots clear of last year's D Flight National Champion, Elvis Sheahan of Durham.
The Tour will be taking next Saturday off for the Memorial Day Weekend and will resume play on May 31 at Foxfire Resort. There are a number of spots available for that event.

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?
Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.
I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.
There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Question from week #250
Gary and Hank are opponents in a match. Gary mistakenly plays Hank’s ball which lies in the first cut of rough, taking a sizable divot in the process. Choose from the options below:
1. Hank may substitute a ball, placing it within one club-length of the original spot, no closer to the hole. If the fairway is within one club-length, there is no restriction for choosing that location.
2. Hank may either retrieve the original ball or substitute a ball. He must place the ball on the original spot even though that spot has been altered.
3. Hank must place a ball on the nearest spot that is most similar to the original lie that is within one club-length of the original spot and no closer to the hole.
4. Who cares? Gary lost the hole when he played a wrong ball.
Answer
This is match play, so 4 is the correct answer. (R15-3a)
How about if it were stroke play? Then answer 3 would be correct, and Gary would be penalized two strokes. (R15-3b, R20-3) If for some reason the exact spot of the ball is in doubt, then instead of placing, the spot of the ball would have to be estimated, and Hank would have to drop ball on that spot, no nearer the hole. (R20-3c)

Tour Weather Guidelines:
Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play.
The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).
In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.
Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.
If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
