GOLFWEEK TOUR PLAYERS UNDAUNTED BY WEATHER WOES

Durham, NC (September 17, 2011) - Whether it was a desire to collect late season points in this - the second to last regular season event of the 2011 schedule, or just a desire to play competitive golf, a small field of intrepid Golfweek Tour members braved the dank and dreary weather conditions today and teed it up at Falls Village Golf Club. While it never actually rained (a slight drizzle was as bad as it got), still the course conditions were wet, cool, and long, adversely affecting scoring in most flights.
As always seems to happen, however, one player bucked that trend and turned in a career-best score. In his last event at Salem Glen in Clemmons, Pinehurst's Ben Martin fashioned a smooth 102. He improved on that score today by a mere 21 strokes with an 81 that was good for an 11 stroke victory in the C Flight. That 11 stroke margin was by far the biggest of the season "on-Tour" in any flight. "Even after posting his score today, Ben's Tour scoring average is 91.6, certainly a reasonable average for C Flight play" noted Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "As Ben himself said today - "This was just one of those days where everything just worked" ".
Greensboro players were particularly tough today, winning both the Championship and A Flights and losing a playoff for the top spot in the B Flight. Sean Pardue's 76 was the class of the Championship Flight, while Ken Carlyle survived a sudden-death playoff with Jamestown's Rob Andrews for the A Flight win.
Greensboro's Robin Gomez was not as fortunate as Carlyle in the B Flight playoff, losing to Ramseur's Mike Hindmarsh. Raleigh's John Dorris rounded out the last of the 5 champions with a 97, good for a 2-stroke win in the D Flight. Dorris was one of only two flight members to break the "century" scoring mark - the other was Kernersville's Keith Thomas with a 99.
