Spring Lake, NC - (August 23, 2008) After 18 holes of regulation play, four Egolf Tour members found themselves tied for the A Flight top spot in the season's 4th and final Major Championship. Raleigh's Mike Mullins and Rob Reynolds, Fayetteville's Shone Russell, and Gary Sample of Winston Salem all turned in scorecards with 77s, to lead what was one of the strongest tournament fields of the year in their flight. All four returned to the course and hole #1 to begin a "sudden death" playoff to determine the flight champion. The playoff proved to be a matter of attrition rather than brilliant play as only Mullins and Reynolds were able to par the first hole and move on. Reynolds then hit his tee shot on #2 into the woods and was unable to find the ball, in effect handing Mullins the win. "It was kind of anti-climatic for it to end that way", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck, "but under Major Championship conditions some strange things can happen. Even so, they had to beat a bunch of guys just to get to that spot, and a Major win is a Major win". Nathan Bailey's 1-over 73 took the top spot by 4 strokes over Wendell's Robert Brown, who was playing in only his second Tour event. Both guys teed it up from the 7,180 yard back tees - the only flight in the event to do so. "Those were some strong scores from back there", said Assistant Tour Director Tom Kubla. Richrad Pfister shot a 79 for a 2 stroke advantage over Winston-Salem's Brian Brush to take top honors in the B Flight, while Pittsboro's Charles Powell continued his torrid play of late in the C Flight with an 89. Powell nipped both Dryfork VA's Greg Dotson and Winston-Salem's Jason Smith by 1 stroke for the win.
