HYLAND GOLF CLUB
----
|
===============================================================
Hyland Golf Club is often referred to as “the player’s” course for its playability, affordability and excellent conditions. This unique Tom Jackson design is a North Carolina Sandhills must play golf experience. Enjoy rolling terrain set amidst longleaf pines, and a great test of Senior Tournament golf!
Of surveyed golfers, 75% rate Hyland "Excellent or Very Good" .
A few reviews:
“Wonderful Golf Experience”
Reviewed March 17, 2014
Have played just about every course in the Sandhills and many in the Myrtle Beach area and Hyland ranks with the best. Overall conditions are superb with the best greens around. Beautiful views from several locations as the course is on one of the highest points in Moore County. Friendly staff will make you feel welcomed and want to come back. I highly recommend Hyland when planning your golf getaway.
“Very Playable Course”
Reviewed May 15, 2013
Just returned from a golf trip - our 27th as a group to the Pinehurst-area. The 1st day - we played The Hyland Club. This was the perfect course to begin our annual golf adventure. The course is very playable and was in great condition. Great start to a great outing.
“Interesting course”
Reviewed December 21, 2012
The changes of elevation on this course are much more radical here than most of the other sandhills courses. The design features some rather unusually routed holes with terrific vistas and some of the largest most difficult greens around......
4 Stars "OUTSTANDING. Plan your next vacation around it."

"Can't Complete the Low Round?
"Improve Your Golf Mental Toughness"
Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf
EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind!
Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly.
-
It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons)
-
It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!).
-
It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf
"When you have a chance to shoot the lowest score of your life, you won't choke - You Will Go Low!"

QUICK PLAY NETS GOLFWEEK TOUR WIN
Lexington, NC
September 6, 2014
There's an old saying in golf - "You think long, you think wrong". The truth of that saying was underscored today in the Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour event held at Sapona Ridge Country Club.
The lead Championship Flight group finished their round in an unofficial local tour record time of three hours and thirty-five minutes.
Included in that pairing was the eventual winner of the flight - Kernersville's Park Williams who posted a 2-over 74. To further illustrate the point that it doesn't take 5 hours to post a competitive round, the second place finisher, Greensboro's Bryan Sepich, was also in that lead group.
"We preach 'ready golf' before every event", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "It obviously paid off in this instance".
While the A Flight also played at a reasonably quick pace, it took a little longer to determine a winner in that group as both Greensboro's Cuong Ton and Thomasville's Dan Anthony each finished their rounds with a flight-best score of 75. As with all first place ties "on-Tour", Ton and Anthony headed back to the course to determine the winner in a sudden-death shootout. Ton made quick work of the playoff, winning on the first extra hole.
Sapona CC A Flight Winner, Cuong Ton on right with Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck.
Another first place tie in the B Flight ended as a "walk-over" as Christianburg, VA's Joe Rollison left the course property before all B Flight scores were in, effectively giving the win to Lewisville's Burt Flowers who matched Rollison's 82 in regulation play. Flowers quipped "A win is a win" as he accepted the winner's trophy.
Sapona CC Flight Winners (L to R): D Flight - Shane Kilby;
C Flight Jason Beeson; B Flight - Burt Flowers;
Championship Flight Winner - Park Williams (Not Shown)
Jason Beeson of Clemmons took the top spot in the C Flight with an 88 - three shots clear of Kernersville's Andy Bousman.
Another Clemmon's resident - Shane Kilby took home his initial win in the D Flight competition with a single stroke win over Fayetteville's Bernard Broadnax. "It was great to see Shane have a breakthrough round", stated Hallenbeck. "He deserved it".
The Golfweek Tour will take next week off and resume play on September 20 at Hyland Resort near Pinehurst. There are plenty of spots available for that tournament.

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?
Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.
I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.
There will be no trick questions or hidden information.
|
Questions from week #266
Some situations in golf are so unique, they have their own Rule. Once such Rule covers a ball that is in water, in a water hazard, and is moving. The movement may be due to current or simply rolling back and forth in wave-like action. Below are some statements pertaining to this condition. Read and decide which of these would be TRUE.
A. For the purpose of identifying his ball, the player should mark and lift a ball moving back and forth on the shallow edge of a pond.
B. For the purpose of identifying his ball, the player need not mark a moving ball. He simply lifts, then after identifying, replaces the ball in the water from where he lifted it if he still intends to play it from the water.
C. If a player chooses to play the ball from the water, he must not delay his stroke in order to allow the ball to move into a more favorable condition.
D. In stroke play, if a player finds a ball moving in shallow water in a water hazard, makes a stroke with this ball and then learns it is not his ball, he has played a wrong ball and is penalized two strokes.
Answers
Only C is True.
If a player plays a ball from anywhere on the course, it is his responsibility to ensure he does not play a wrong ball (R15-3). This requires the player to identify the ball prior to making a stroke at the ball. Rule 12-1 gives us significant guidance for a ball found in various situations and should periodically be included in your review. Rule 12-2 provides guidance on the proper steps for the identification process.
There is one exception to the penalty for playing a wrong ball, and that is for a ball moving in water in a water hazard, and applies to both stroke and match play (R15-3a & b.). Obviously, we cannot mark a moving ball as a moving ball has no position to mark.
The specific circumstance is covered by R14-6, Ball Moving In Water. Within that Rule the player is informed he must not delay his stroke for the purpose of allowing the ball to roll into a more favorable position. Since a moving ball cannot be marked the player must not lift the ball unless he invokes R26, Water Hazards (Including Lateral Water Hazards).

Tour Weather Guidelines:
Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play.
The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).
In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.
Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.
If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
