SUDDEN DEATH PLAYOFFS DECIDE EGOLF TOUR WINS!

Raleigh, NC (March 29, 2008) - Both the Championship and “A†Flights of the egolf Amateur Golf Tour had to go to extra holes to determine a winner Saturday at Eagle Ridge GC. Despite the tough weather conditions that had most of the golfers wanting to get home quickly after the event, at least 4 players didn’t mind playing an extra hole or two to determine the outcome of the day’s competition.
Anthony Laffoley of Raleigh used an Eagle 3 on the 526 yard 17th hole to help himself get into a playoff with Yadkinville’s Quentin Caudle after both posted regulation 75s on the 6,904 yard layout. However, it was Caudle who displayed a steady game in overtime for the victory with 3 pars in-a-row. “Anthony made a miracle par from out of the creek on the second playoff holeâ€, stated Caudle. “After that, I was happy to get away with the win anyway I couldâ€.
Meanwhile in the A Flight, Chris Hensley of Wake Forest prevailed over Cary’s Tad Galloway in a playoff to become the Tour’s first multiple winner of 2008. Galloway (who won the long drive competition during the event) lamented: “I hit my only bad tee shot of the day on that first playoff holeâ€. He then bunkered his second shot and failed to save par from there, allowing Hensley an open shot at the win. Hensley pounced on the opportunity. They both posted 79s in regulation.
18-year-old Mark Bawden of Raleigh made his Tour debut a successful one as his 81 was good enough for a single shot victory over Fayetteville’s Kent Patton in the B Flight. Another Tour rookie, Mark Cobb of Hope Mills, got his first Tour win in the C Flight with an impressive 88 that was 3 shots clear of two Raleigh golfers – Shirral Davis and Jeff Bradley.
“We’ve been plagued by terrible weather in our last three eventsâ€, stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. “Considering the conditions these guys had to deal with, they posted some pretty good scoresâ€.
