Winston-Salem, NC (June 7, 2008) - Chris Logan of Winston-Salem fired 5 birdies in a row and 8 overall during Championship Flight play in the Egolf Amateur Golf Tour event held at Meadowlands Golf Course here Saturday. Logan’s final score of 65 (including a blistering 30 on the back 9) equaled the lowest score ever posted in the 14 year history of the Tour. Logan had ample chance to grab the low score record for himself, but a few makeable putts didn’t drop.
“It could have easily been a 59â€, said playing partner Tod Dauler of Greensboro who finished a distant 2nd, 8 shots back. “He (Logan) made it look easy†continued Dauler. “I thought I played pretty well, but there was no catching himâ€.
“I think I can compete for the top spot in the Tour Finals in Hilton Head in Octoberâ€, said Logan, referring to the year ending event that draws the top players from over 30 Tours around the country. “I’d like to give that a shotâ€.
In other flight play, only one player in the B Flight managed to break 80 from the shorter, 6,323 yard Blue tees. That player was Pittsboro’s Mike Hawkins who shot his best score in his last 2 years of Tour play with a 79 to grab the top spot in the flight. Hawkins, who arguably has played in as many events as any other local Tour member over the last 10 years, celebrated his victory with A Flight winner Tim Thilo of Greensboro, who exactly matched Hawkins winning score of 79.
In the C Flight, Ray Schenkel of Reidsville, who is no stranger to finishing “in the moneyâ€, nipped Apex’ David Schmanke for first place by 1 stroke with an 84.
“We’re still accepting new members for the 2008 seasonâ€, stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. “Any amateur golfer, no matter what their handicap, can call me at 336-495-6556 and I’ll explain how they can get on-board for our next eventâ€.
