Bermuda Run, NC (May 7, 2011) - Advance's Joe Agee in the Championship Flight, Greensboro's Kevin Goedeck in "A", and Tim Crites, also from Greensboro, in the B Flight grabbed their first career Tour victories today in the Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour event held at Bermuda Run West Country Club.
Agee, playing from the back tees in the Championship Flight, fired a 71 for a 3-shot win over Asheville's Darren Cook. Agee wasn't flashy - he was steady. He only posted 1 birdie on the 6,649 yard, par 70 layout.
Greensboro's Goedeck, who played from the shorter (6,269 yard) Blue Tees in A Flight competition, burned up the front side with a 33 and a total of 69 for a comfortable 6-stroke win over Winston-Salem's Mark Robinson. Goedeck managed 3 birdies to help his cause. "I can see Kevin moving up to Championship Flight competition in the near future" stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "Even though this was only a par 70 layout, his score was still pretty darn strong".
Tim Crites from Greensboro, playing in his 2nd full Tour season proudly announced "this is my first one (victory)", as he received his 1st-place crystal trophy and $200.00 Mastercard that went with the win. Crites' 77 edged Winston-Salem resident Burt Flowers by 2 shots. Not to be outdone in terms of competitive excitement, both the C and D Flights required "sudden-death" playoffs to determine a winner.
In the C Flight, Nelson Peterson of Greensboro, who, like Rocky Mount's Randy Starr shot an 87 over his first 18 holes, started the playoff on the 358 yard, par 4 1st Hole by blasting a drive in excess of 300 yards. His par was enough to grab the win.
Greensboro's Keith Thomas also registered a par on the 1st hole of his playoff with David Flanagan of Clemmons to win the D Flight competition. Both Thomas and Flanagan posted 97s on their first 18 holes. Both Peterson and Thomas are multiple winners this season in Tour play.
