=============================================================
NOTICE: SOUTHERN PINES MAKE-UP VENUE SWITCHED ONCE AGAIN - NOW AT FOXFIRE.
The event scheduled for August 3 - Southern Pines CC was switched to Mill Creek due to conflicting contractual problems with the course.
Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that Mill Creek has lost it's greens again. Consequently, we will not stage the event at Mill Creek on August 3.
I have secured a new venue for that date: Foxfire CC (East - Grey Fox) in the Pinehurst area. Price and times are the same as the original Southern Pines event - 9:00 AM shotgun and $75.00 event fee.
If you signed up originally for Southern Pines, I will leave you on the roster for Foxfire unless you inform me otherwise.
Please let me know asap if you were signed up, but don't wish to play at Foxfire.

2013 GOLFWEEK AMATEUR GOLF TOUR
AUGUST 3, 2013
FOXFIRE RESORT AND GOLF CLUB
-----
|
Foxfire Resort - Grey Fox Course
Foxfire Resort and Golf Club features 36 holes of world-class, North Carolina golf. For nearly four decades golfers from across the globe have come to Foxfire, seeking their unique blend of layout, natural beauty and high-quality service.
Hall of Fame architect Gene Hamm designed these 36 holes to take full advantage of the rolling hills, soft sandy soils and plentiful area lakes.
The course you will be playing this week is the East or Grey Fox.
Widely considered the most challenging course, the Grey Fox features hilly terrain, several doglegs and towering pines. The Grey Fox emphasizes shot-making with a well-bunkered layout with characteristic elevated greens. Golfers must avoid the sand and position the ball on the proper side of the fairway so that they get the best approach angle to the small greens. The Grey Fox is in the best condition it has been in over 10 years, providing all golfers a playable challenge.
If you played this course years ago, it is time to return. You will be pleasantly surprised.
From the first tee box, golfers look downhill to a large lake jutting out to divide the fairway forcing players to hit a 3 or 5 wood. Often with a slightly downhill lie, the second shot on this par 5 requires a well struck shot across the hazard to set up and approach to the narrow but deep green. The 6th hole requires a solid tee shot to cross a large pond. Try to cut off more than you can chew and a watery grave awaits your ball.
The most scenic holes, #9 , #12 and #13, require well placed tee shots with demanding approaches to multi-tiered greens that are slightly smaller than the opening holes. The Grey Fox course is on the rise to be a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

COLLINS AND GRANT REPEAT WINNERS ON GOLFWEEK TOUR
Seven Lakes, NC
July 20, 2013
Just a few short weeks ago Chip Collins from Hope Mills and Grant Powell of Colfax won a major championship in their respective flights on the Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour at Pinewood Country Club - Collins in the Championship Flight and Powell in the A Flight. Both backed up those on Saturday at Seven Lakes Country Club with solid victories that demonstrated their consistency "on-Tour".
Collins fashioned an even par 72 from the back tees for a 2-stroke margin over Raleigh's Anthony Mann.
Winners: A Flight - Grant Powell
Championship Flight - Chris Collins: Photo Unavailable
While Powell played from the shorter Blue tees, his 76 was also good enough for a 2 shot cushion over his closest pursuer, Raleigh's Matt Ellerman. "These guys are factors in every event in which they compete" noted Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck.
B Flight Winner - Tom Kubla
There was no surprise in the B Flight as well as Tour veteran Tom Kubla from Pinehurst was the only flight member to break 80 with a 79. He also enjoyed a 2 stroke edge over Charlotte Tour member Jerry York. Kubla, who played the course Thursday in The Senior Amateur Golf Tour event from tees approximately 400 yards shorter than those played today, bettered his Senior effort by 12 strokes.
Another Tour veteran, Darien Upchurch from Wake Forest took top honors in the C Flight with an 85 that was 1 stroke clear of Hope Mills' Kurt Bryant. Like those mentioned before, Upchurch was no newcomer to the winners circle as he had won numerous times in the past "on-Tour".
D Flight Winner - Ed Polanec;
C Flight Winner - Darien Upchurch - Photo Unavailable
Broadway's Ed Polanec broke the monopoly of past winners going home with the 1st place trophy today as his 90 was a "runaway" winner in the D Flight competition. For Polanec, who is competing in his rookie campaign with the Golfweek Tour it was his first win. "Probably not his last", quipped Hallenbeck. Keith Thomas of Greensboro was a distant 7 strokes back.
The Golfweek Tour will be taking next Saturday off and resume play on August 3 at Foxfire Country Club - The Grey (East) Course. There are plenty of openings available for that venue.
Any amateur golfer interested in playing in that event can contact Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 or by email at behgolf@aol.com.

"Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold"
Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf
EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind!
Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly.
-
It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons)
-
It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!).
-
It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf
"When you have a chance to shoot the lowest score of your life you won't choke - You Will Go Low!"

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?
Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.
I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.
There will be no trick questions or hidden information.
|
Questions from week #208
With the January, 2012 revision to the Rules of Golf, the description of a Tee was removed from the Definitions and placed in the new section: Appendix IV. Using that information and Rule 11-1, decided the following as TRUE or FALSE:
A. It is permissible to set your ball on a divot when playing your first stroke from the teeing ground.
B. It is permissible to attach a string to a tee, provided it is not used to indicate direction of play, only to help find the tee after a stroke.
C. The Rules permit me to create an irregularity of surface using sand scooped from the divot-fill sandbox to tee my ball on a par three.
D. A tee that is designed to be an anti-slice tee is permitted by the Rules and Appendix IV.
Answers:
A. True. R11-1. A divot is a natural substance.
B. False. From Appendix IV: A tee may not be designed in such a way that is could indicate line of play. A string attached to a tee could be used in such a manner.
C. True. R11-1. The surface of the ground includes an irregularity of surface (whether or not created by the player) and sand or other natural substance (whether or not placed by the player).
D. False. This would be a non-conforming tee as it is designed to influence the movement of the ball. See Appendix IV.

Tour Weather Guidelines:
Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play.
The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).
In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.
Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.
If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
