Sanford, NC (April 30, 2011) - After 3 consecutive events that were affected by dismal weather conditions, the Golfweek Amateur Tour members who gathered at Carolina Trace Country Club today to compete on the Lakes Course, were greeted by temperatures in the mid 70s, sunshine, and a noticeable lack of wind. "The weather is a little better today", joked Tour member Greg Dauscher facetiously.
Five players were helped by those conditions to fashion multi-stroke wins in their flights. One flight had a victory margin of 5 strokes, one of 4 strokes, another of 3 strokes and the last two flights saw 2 stroke winners.
In the D Flight all you had to do to finish "in-the-money" was break 100, and that's just what 3 golfers did, led by Eric Friar of Whispering Pines who shot a 90 for a 5-stroke win over John Hall of the Tidewater Tour. Cary's Tony Jenkins finished in 3rd.
Bobby Elder of Randleman enjoyed a 4-shot cushion in the A Flight with a 76. Jamestown's Rob Andrews was 2nd with George Paris of Durham and Raleigh's William Gwinn 1 in back of Andrews with 81s.
High Point's Dan Holland made it 3 wins in-a-row in the Championship Flight with a 74 and a 3 stroke margin over West End's Greg Hall and 4 shots better than Fayetteville's Eli Villanueva.
Ramseur's Mike Hindmarsh and Michael Doak of Cary had 2 stroke winning margins in the B and C Flights respectively. Hindmarsh with an 81, 2 better than Pinehurst's Tom Kubla and 3 clear of Mike Ivy of Apex. Adolph Shepardson of Roaring Gap and Raleigh's Brent Hanes were 2nd and 3rd behind Doak in the C Flight.
The next Golfweek Tour event for The Triad and Raleigh/Pinehurst Tours is being held at Bermuda Run West Country Club next Saturday, May 7.
