2ND GOLFWEEK AMATEUR TOUR MAJOR CONTESTED AT SAPONA CC

Lexington, NC (May 21, 2011) - After four consecutive weeks "on-Tour" where either the weather report or the actual weather conditions were pretty dismal, perfect weather and an immaculate golf course greeted 95 golfers for the 2nd Major Tournament of the 2011 Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour season at Sapona Country Club.
Those Tour members who played had an eye on a victory that would guarantee them a spot in the season-ending Golfweek Tour National Championship, which will bring about 700 players from around the country to Hilton Head in late October. Golfweek Tour members can also get a bid to that event by finishing high in the season-long Points Standings race, and they were aware that as a "Major" tournament, the competition today would provide double points over a non-Major event.
The Flight winners were as follows: Championship - Sean Pardue A Flight - Jake Britt B Flight - Tim Crites C Flight - Allen Pegram D Flight - Eric Friar
There were no ties atop the leaderboards in any one of the five flights in the event, consequently no "sudden-death" playoffs were necessary. All five players walked away with uncontested wins. The Tour will be taking a 2-week break from competition and will resume play on June 11 at 12 Oaks Country Club in Holly Springs. Openings are available for that event.
