Seven Lakes, NC (July 11, 2009) - Bob Webber of Winston-Salem shot a 77 in the Egolf Amateur Tour event held at Seven Lakes Country Club today to grab top honors in the A Flight. It was Webber's second win in a row "on-Tour", as he won the 3rd Major Championship of the year two weeks ago at Pinewood Country Club in Asheboro.
" Bob was not scoring well early in the season", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "When I saw him swing, I really was puzzled why he wasn't putting up better numbers, but it seems he's reached a comfort zone now. I expect more good golf from him as the season progresses".
Webber finished 1 stroke ahead of Reidsville's Steve Cummings on the 6,556 yard, par 72 layout.
In the Championship Flight, Tour newcomer Karl Reamer of Foxfire Village posted a 74 to hold off Raleigh's Scott Corcoran by 4 strokes. In addition to his first place finish, he won 3 of 6 "Skins" in the friendly skins game held every event and took the long drive prize home as well. All-in-all a pretty fair day.
The B Flight saw a fight-to-the-finish between 2 Greensboro members, with Tim Ward taking a 1-shot victory from Jeff Posey, 80 to 81. Ward started and finished the front nine "birdie-birdie" to help him to his win.
Some of the lowest scores of the year were registered in the C Flight competition as 3 golfers broke 85. Winston-Salem's Jason Smith shot an 81 and Reidsville's Ray Schenkel posted 82, but both were "blown out of the water" by Roseboro's Kyle Knowles who shot the lowest score of the year in the C Flight with a 77. "Kyle not only received the gift certificate and trophy that goes with winning, but he also won an instant promotion to the B Flight with a terrific score like that", stated Hallenbeck.
