HOT WEATHER IMPACTS GOLFWEEK TOUR NUMBERS

Mount Airy, NC (July 23, 2011) - With temperatures in the 100s, many Tour members opted not to make the trip 35 miles north of Winston-Salem to compete at Cross Creek Country Club, the premier venue in Mount Airy. They missed a special treat, because the course was in perfect shape and "rolled the red carpet out for us". Unfortunately however, their decision caused this event to be one of the smallest in the 13 year history of the Triad Tour, leaving a number of flights with only 3 or 4 competitors.
One such flight was the Championship Flight which had a foursome competing. Every member of the flight broke 80 with High Point's Dan Holland leading the way with a 74 - 1 stroke better than Gene Queen of Advance and Greensboro's Sean Pardue.
Another "foursome" flight was the C Flight, with Rolesville's Bill Wilkinson popping an 85 to edge out Union Hall, VA's Don Pollock by a single stroke.
The D Flight, with only 3 competitors, couldn't have been any closer, as Jerry Jordan of Winston-Salem nipped both David Flanagan of Clemmons and Siler City's Carlos Simpson by 1 - 101 to 102.
Summerfield's Mike Crawford proved to be the class of the A Flight as his 76 was 3 shots clear of Tim Knight, who traveled north from Lexington, SC to compete in this event.
Meanwhile in the B Flight, another "traveler" - the Tidewater Tour's Wayne Barfield - emerged victorious with an 81 that was 1 better than Reidsville's Ray Schenkel.
The next Golfweek Tour event is scheduled for Saturday, July 30, at Devils Ridge Country Club in Holly Springs near Raleigh. Although that event already has more people signed up than played at Cross Creek - there are still openings available. Any amateur golfer interested in playing in a Golfweek event, can contact Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 for information.
