=============================== 2013 GOLFWEEK AMATEUR GOLF TOUR MAY 11, 2013 MEADOWLANDS GOLF CLUB |
Meadowlands Golf Club | |
As most of you recall, Meadowlands has long rolling fairways and luscious bent grass greens. However, don't be lulled to sleep, if you are not careful it will snap you back to reality very quickly and cause you to card some big scores on some holes. But if you pay attention, low scores can be had. Meadowlands was designed and created by Hale Irwin, one of the games greatest players and is a golf course that is both rewarding and challenging. Arrive early enough to take advantage of their practice facility which has an excellent driving range, short game area and putting green that should help you mentally shave a few strokes off your score. Expect your peers to have already signed-up. You know the drill - to sign-up call Bruce Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 or email him at behgolf@aol.com Club Address & Info: Meadowlands Golf Club 542 Meadowlands Drive Winston-Salem, NC 27107 (336) 769-1011 |

============================================================== LOW SCORES "MOVE 'EM UP" ON GOLFWEEK TOUR Greensboro, NC May 4, 2013 Three Triad Tour members are making the jump to a higher flight for their next Tour events after posting some impressive scores in the Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour event held at Forest Oaks Country Club today. Two C Flighters, Paul Chanthaphone of Greensboro and James Snipes of Jamestown will be promoted along with precocious 14year-old Scott Campbell of Greensboro who will move from A Flight to Championship Flight competition.
C Flight Winner: Paul Chanthaphone Chanthaphone and Snipes had to go extra holes to determine the C Flight winner as both finished with regulation 82s. Chanthaphone won the sudden death playoff. While Campbell didn't come in 1st in the A Flight, that honor went to Charlotte's Jason Breedlove who shot even par 72, he finished only 1 shot behind after winning his Tour debut last week at Carolina Trace. "I can play the Championship yardage", stated Campbell. "I want to move up". For Breedlove, it was his lowest Tour score anywhere in 8 years of competition. (L to R) Winners: Championship Flight - Chip Collins; A Flight- Jason Breedlove Chip Collins of Hope Mills, playing in his 1st event of the 2013 season, took top honors in the Championship Flight with a 73. High Point's Dan Holland was runner-up with a 76. It should be noted that the Championship guys played from tees that were 450 yards longer than their counterparts in the other flights. "They played a different golf course" said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. B Flight Winner - Eddie Warren Eddie Warren had a comfortable margin of victory in the B Flight as his 78 was 5 shots clear of Winston-Salem's Nick Slager. Tour veteran Greg Dotson of Raven, VA enjoyed a 4 shot cushion over Apex' Elvis Sheahan - 92 to 96 to take home the 1st place trophy in the D Flight. D Flight Winner - Greg Dotson Next Tour stop will be The Meadowlands near Kernersville on May 11. There are spots available for that event. Any amateur golfer interested in playing in a Tour event can call Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 for information. "Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold" Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them! Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind! Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly. It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons) It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!). It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf "When you have a chance to shoot the lowest score of your life you won't choke - You Will Go Low!"

Rules Review It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information. If you do not have a Rules of Golf book handy, go to: usga.org/Rule-Books and-Decisions |
Question from week #197 In a stroke play event, Eddie hit’s his tee ball on the 12th hole into a very muddy low lying area in the fairway. This area is not marked as ground under repair, but similar areas throughout the course are so marked. Because no member of the Committee is available to make a ruling, Eddie announces he intends to play two balls, his original from where it lies, and a second ball under the provisions of R25-1, Abnormal Ground Conditions and he states the second ball should count for score. Eddie determines the nearest point of relief and drops a ball according to the Rules. Eddie plays the ball from the mud first and hits it to about a foot from the hole. He then decides not to play the second ball and lifts it. When he completes the round, the facts are made known to the Committee before he signs his card. Pick all correct statements: A. The score Eddie made on the 12th hole with his original ball stands regardless of how the Committee deems the area of question on the 12th hole. B. Eddie is penalized one stroke for moving his (2nd) ball in play which is added to the score of his first ball. C. If the Committee rules the area of mud was not GUR, then the score he recorded on the 12th hole stands. D. If the Committee rules the area of mud was GUR, then he is disqualified under R3-2.
Answer C and D are both correct. Remember the basic instructions when you play a second ball under R3-3: Stroke Play Only Doubt as to Procedure, Rule 3-3 Before taking further action the player must : 1. Announce his intention to play two balls, and 2. Identify which ball is to count for score, if the Rules permit. Then, 3. Play out both balls into the hole, and 4. Report the facts to the Committee before turning in score card. Eddie did everything correctly except he failed to play both balls into the hole. As a result there are two possible outcomes. 1. If the Committee decides the area was not GUR, then Eddie’s first ball would determine his score for the hole. 2. However, if the Committee had agreed with Eddie’s original thought that his ball had come to rest in an area that the Committee overlooked and determined that he was indeed entitled to relief, then that second ball would determine his score. But, Eddie never completed play of the hole with that second ball, the one he originally stated he wanted to count for score if the Rules permit, therefore he has no score for the hole and as a result is disqualified. You must understand, when you invoke the option to play a second ball in stroke play, the Committee, not the player, will decide which ball counts for score. You must complete the play of the hole with both balls to prevent a possible DQ. You can reverse the order of his actions, meaning he plays the second ball first and hit’s it next to the hole. I would think he would be less likely to lift his original in this scenario because he’ll probably consider the fact the Committee might not grant relief. The reasoning he would apply in this second case was what he should have considered initially. When you read over R3-3, recognize that R3-3a lays out the instructions for the player and R3-3b provides the guidance for the Committee. =============================================== |
Tour Weather Guidelines: Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play. The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness). In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist. Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening. If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
