Greensboro, NC (May 10, 2008) – Greensboro’s James Moore shot a one-over 73 on the 7,057 yard Bryan Park Players course Saturday to capture first place in the Championship Flight of the Egolf Amateur Golf Tour by a single stroke over fellow Greensboro resident Tod Dauler. It was Moore’s second Egolf Tour victory in as many events as he also finished in the top spot last week at Carolina Lakes in Sanford.
Moore was cruising toward a sub-par round, but suffered a bogey on 16 and a double on 17. He settled down with a par on the difficult 442 yard, par 4 final hole to protect his slim margin of victory. Walnut Cove’s Scotty Mounce finished 3rd with a 75.
In the A Flight, which played from the shorter (6,565 yard) White Tees, Greensboro’s Tim Thilo fired a 75 for a 4 stroke margin of victory over Randleman’s Kenny Smith. Playing on his home course, Thilo managed 2 birdies on the front side and “steadied†his way home for the win. Robin Neverve of Laurinburg had an 80, which was 1 stroke back of Smith for 3rd.
While no one in the B Flight was able to break 80, Mount Airy’s Ron Snow hit that number on the nose for a 2 stroke edge over High Point’s Steve Tracey. Dale Flowers of Greensboro rounded out the top 3 with an 84.
The C Flight witnessed some playoff excitement as both Chris Vetrone of Greensboro and Clemmons’ Jack Frazier posted regulation 89s. Vetrone put his tee shot down the middle with a 3-wood to start the playoff on the par 4, 363 yard, 10th hole. He then knocked his 6-iron stiff for the birdie and the playoff win. Madison’s Rus Rilling was the 3rd place finisher with a 91.
