Carolina Trace (Lakes) Winners!
Sanford, NC (May 2, 2009) - Three of the four flights contested today in the Egolf Amateur Golf Tour Carolina Trace CC event went to sudden death playoffs to determine a winner. The Championship, A, and C Flights all had two members tied atop the leader board after regulation play was completed, necessitating extra play to crown a winner.
Playing The Lakes Course (one of two outstanding tracks at Carolina Trace), even the playoffs showed how evenly matched the contestants were as all three tiebreakers went only one hole with the winning margin being one stroke in each flight.
Bob Christenson of Fuqua-Varina emerged as the winner in the Championship Flight over Selma's Tracey King. Playing from the back tees, both had regulation scores of 78.
In the A Flight, which played from the shorter Blue tees, Shone Russell of Raleigh and Brad Morris of Four Oaks finished with 76s. Russell then took advantage of a tough break that occurred to Morris during their playoff. Morris' drive on the 1st hole barely rolled into the rough and came to rest in a nasty divot. Unable to strike his next effort cleanly, Morris left the door open for Russell who responded with a par for the win.
Jung You of Clemmons, playing in his very first Tour event, made it an especially successful debut as he went on to win his tiebreaker with Tour veteran Mike Germain of Raleigh to grab top honors in the C Flight. You and Germain were two of only three flight members to break 90 in the flight as the pair registered 84s over their regulation 18 holes.
In relation to the other 3 flights, Mark Cobb of Hope Mills had an easy go of it in the B Flight with a 79 and a 4-stroke margin over playing partner Adam Perry of Fayetteville and Godwin's Larry Baggett. "Cobb has been riding a recent hot-streak in Tour competition, and today was no exception", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck.
"We had another new guy win one today", added Hallenbeck. "With fifteen more events on the calendar, we expect to see more members joining before the year is out". For information on playing in a Tour event, call Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556, or email him at behgolf@aol.com.
