BELCHER POSTS CAREER ROUND TO WIN EGOLF MAJOR

Pittsboro, NC (June 28, 2008) - Drew Belcher, playing on a "guest exemption", picked a heckuva time to post his career round. The Martinsville native fired a 3-under 69, including 5 birdies and an eagle at the 7,136 yard, par 72, Golf Club at Chapel Ridge Saturday. It was the lowest round Belcher had ever shot in competition and it was good enough for him to take a 2-stroke victory in Championship Flight play, edging fellow Martinsville resident and Virginia State golf team member Jerel Whiting.
Playing partner Bill Wilson stated "On the eagle that Drew had, if the ball made one more rotation, it would have been in the cup for a double (eagle)". Wilson went on to note: "As it got later in the round, you could see him (Belcher) getting nervous. That's when he made a few bogies, but he drained a 25 foot bomb on our 17th hole and that gave him the edge over Jerel. It was fun to watch".
While the Championship Flight produced some fireworks, the B Flight, which played from the shorter (6,700 yard) Blue Tees, had more than its share of excitement as well. Two players: Mike Martin of Fayetteville, and Joe Durrance of Carrboro, finished with regulation 79s. They headed out to hole #1 for a sudden death playoff. Both players continued the strong play they displayed on the original 18, as they matched pars on their 1st three playoff holes. On the 4th hole however, a 286 yard, short par-4, Martin drove the green and converted a 2-putt birdie for the win and the $220 gift certificate that went with it. Martin's good fortune did not stop there however - he was also one of four winners of a $101.00 "skin" for eagling hole #17 during the regular event play.
In the A Flight, two Tour veterans "locked horns" as Raleigh's Rick Reisinger posted a 1-stroke victory over Greensboro's Ben Shipley with a 75. "It was pretty much a typical round for Rick", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck, "steady play. Not a whole lot of birdies, but not a lot of bogies either".
Mike Ivy of Apex had a "breakthrough" round in the C Flight. He fired an 81 for a single shot victory over Chapel Hill's Barry Fleming. Ivy entered the event with a Tour scoring average of 96.3. "I expect to see Ivy moving up through the flights before the season is over", said Hallenbeck.
As is the case with all Major events contested "on-Tour", all four flight winners receive an automatic invitation to the year ending Tour Championship held at Hilton Head in late October, where they will compete against the top players from Tours all around the country.
