ROCKY MOUNT'S STARR HAS "BREAKOUT" ROUND AT LONGLEAF GC

Pinehurst, NC (July 31, 2010) - Some things you just can't explain. C Flight Egolf Tour member Randy Starr of Rocky Mount has played a full schedule on Tour this season. His scoring average entering today's event at Longleaf GC was 96.3 in 18 Tour events. In 8 of those events he failed to break 100, only breaking 90 once. No one except Randy could have envisioned what he would do today.
All he did was shoot one of the lowest C Flight scores ever recorded in the 12-year history of the Pinehurst Tour with a staggering 79! He blistered the front nine with a 1-over 37, while posting a more-than-respectable 42 on the back. He needed every one of those strokes as he edged Sanford's Bill Bridges by a single shot for the win.
"Randy's one of the nicest guys on Tour" stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "He enjoys himself and his Tour partners even when he posts one of his higher scores. Normally when you post a score like that in the C Flight, you hear a lot of grumbling from the other flight members, but today everyone was pretty "pumped" for Randy. He proved today he can hit the ball".
Another low score was needed to win the B Flight competition, as 6 players were within 2 strokes of Cuong Ton's winning score of 75. It was the Greensboro resident's 2nd victory in his last 3 events.
While the B and C Flights played from Longleaf's White Tees at 6.098 yards, the Championship and A Flights were on the Blues - about 500 yards back at 6,600 yards and that fact was reflected in the respective scores. Tour veteran Henry Lister of Chapel Hill had a 76 to grab top honors in the A Flight, one stroke ahead of Pittsboro's David Howard. Sanford's Craig Sturdivant continued his great play of late with a 1-under 70 for another Championship Flight win. Sturdivant effort was 4-strokes clear of Chicago Tour member Rob Clarke.
