Browns Summit, NC (February 27, 2010) - "When will we catch a break with the weather" was the question on the mind of virtually every golfer when they arrived at the Egolf Amateur Tour event held at Bryan Park (Championship Course) today. After having the opening event of the year canceled on 3 occasions due to snow and cold temperatures, the Bryan Park competitors were greeted by temperatures in the mid 30s with wind gusts up to 20 mph that made it seem quite a bit colder. Nevertheless, 80 golfers teed it up to contest the season's first event.
Despite the tough conditions, a few players managed to post scores that would have been very competitive in more temperate conditions. Some of the lowest scores were posted by Tour "rookies" playing in their first events. Such was the case in the A Flight where Fayetteville's Scott Blackstone equaled the lowest score in the event with a 78. Two strokes back was Durham's Angel Milne, followed by Mike Allison, also of Durham & Devin Bradley of Greensboro with 83s. All four players are new to the Tour this year.
The B Flight also saw a new Tour member emerge victorious as Lawsonville's Tate Rogers fired a 79 for first place. Ramseur's Mike Hindmarsh had an 82, and High Point's Pride Grimm posted an 83.
The C Flight had to go to extra holes to crown a champ with Hilton Head's Jan Miskovsky winning on the first playoff hole with an up & down par to edge Winston-Salem's Jason Smith. Both had recorded regulation 86s. Greg Dotson of Dryfork, VA finished one stroke back.
Tour veteran Park Williams of Kernersville nipped Greensboro's Horace Broderick by 1 with a 78 to secure top honors in the Championship Flight.
"I know we're gonna finally get a break with this weather", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "It can't stay this bad forever. With all the new members we picked up during the off-season, fields will get bigger as well".
