GOLF COURSE WINS IN EGOLF AMATEUR TOUR CAROLINA LAKES EVENT

Sanford, NC - (May 3, 2005) It appeared that Carolina Lakes GC would be “easy pickin’s†for the young guns of the Egolf Amateur Golf Tour, with their 280+ yard drives. After all, the par 70 course measures only 6,310 yards from the Championship (Blue) tees and half the field (B & C Flights) would be playing even closer - from the 6,011 yard White tees. But fast greens and challenging pin placements proved to be a serious challenge to the field as the finals scores indicated.
Only one golfer in the entire field broke 80, as Greensboro’s James Moore took his 2nd win of the 2008 season in the Championship Flight with a 79. Donnie Chapman of Youngsville had the best A Flight score in the event with an 84. Pinehurst’s Tom Kubla finished “in-the-money†for the first time in Egolf play as his 83 took the top prize in the B Flight. Reidsville’s Ray Schenkel was the only C Flight member to break 90 as his 89 edged Winston-Salem’s Jason Smith by 3 strokes.
“The course was in great shape, and the weather was fine, despite some windy conditionsâ€, said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. “Today just goes to show that a course doesn’t have to be 7,000 yards long to present a challenge to good golfersâ€.
