102 Golfers tee'd it up on a hot and sunny Saturday
afternoon at this tough test of golf.
Firethorne usually produces some of the highest scores on the Charlotte
tour each year, but not today. The
course was in great shape and the bent grass greens were probably in the best
shape we have seen over the years at this time of the year.
In the Championship Flight, we had two golfers tie at 74
(+2) and they were forced back onto the course to settle the result. After 3 holes, Sam Echikson who joined the
tour the previous evening, made a birdie on the 3rd playoff hole to claim
victory over Scott Roberts. John
Heffernan and David Schmidt both tied at 76 (+4), but it was Heffernan who
claims third based on the scorecard playoff method.
In the A Flight, Eric Stanwick is able to put all 18 holes together
to claim his first victory on the year.
Eric's round of 75 (+3) was 2 better than a pair of golfers. Chris Cloud and Patrick Mack who both shot 77
(+5) had to be settled by a scorecard playoff and in the end, it was Cloud taking second and Mack settling
for 3rd. Two golfers tied for 4th with
matching 79's, but it was Chase Brown who edged out Wes Jones for the 4th and
final paying position.
In the B Flight, It was resident member, Justin Boyd who
claims victory with a round of 77 (+5) over his home track and claim a 4 hot
victory. Nolan Elenz who had chance at victory
but the last two holes cost him. Nolan's
round of 81 (+9) was still good enough for 2nd.
David Aussicker takes 3rd with a score of 83 (+11). John Torres who received a hall pass from his
wife this weekend takes home 4th with a score of 84 (+12) and rounding out the
top 5 was Devin Cherry with a score of 85 (+13)
In the C Flight, Chip Goode claims victory and a promotion
to the B Flight based on his updated AGT index.
Chip's score of 84 (+12) was highlighted by a birdie on his final hole
to seal the deal. Mark Langford claims
2nd with a score of 85 (+13). Greg
Pounds takes 3rd with a score of 86 (+14) and rounding out the top 4 was Steve
Daniels with a score of 90 (+17).
In the D Flight, Brian Jones claims victory and a promotion
to the C Flight after his updated AGT index was calculated. Brian's score of 87
(+15) was 4 better than 2nd place finisher Brad Griego who edged out Raymond
Hoerr on the scorecard playoff after both players shot 91 (+19).
Our next event is less than a week away at River Hills
Country Club on Lake Wylie. Another
great old layout will challenge the best players to hit shots all day long.
Thanks for all the support as usual.
