Battle at Ballantyne Take II
Monday May 6th, 2019
A gorgeous Monday afternoon greeted the players as they battled it out at Ballantyne CC for the second time this year. Ballantyne CC hosted us for a second time after we had rained out our event at Cedarwood CC in early April. The course was in fantastic shape despite the rain over the previous 48 hours.
In the Champ Flight it was Steve French (Hilton Head, Savannah tour) that took the top spot after an Even Par round of 72. Jay Barnes and Scott Roberts tied for second with rounds of 74 (+2). Jay wins the tiebreaker using the scorecard playoff. Fourth goes to Scott Patnode shooting 75 (+3).
In the A Flight, we had a very close result. The top 10 were all within 2 shots of each other. When 18 holes were finished we did not have a clear winner and we had 5 golfer head back to the 10th tee to settle the tiebreaker Scott, Ide, Ronneil Herron, Jason Breedlove, Rich Revels and Pedro Montoya (Central Carolina) all shot 79 (+7). On the first playoff hole only Montoya and Herron were able to make par and advance. On the second playoff hole Montoya made birdie to claim the victory.
In the B Flight, it was some home cooking that proved to decide the winner. Nolan Elenz, a member at Ballantyne CC, took first place honors shooting an outstanding round of 76 (+4) to win by 3 over two golfers. AJ Allmendinger continues to improve each and every week as he transitions from the Asphalt to the Green grass and as a result takes second after beating out Tyler Phillips on the scorecard playoff. both players shot 79 (+7). Clif Morgan claims the last paying spot shooting 80 (8).
In the C Flight, Dustin Walls shoots 86 (+14) to win his first event on tour. Cyril Daniel and Hector Moreno tied for second after shooting 89 (+17) but it was Cyril who claims second based on the scorecard playoff.
In the D Flight, Matt Walker claims his first victory on tour shooting 87 (+15). Dannie Gay shoots 92 (+20) to take second after beating out Mark Stone on the scorecard playoff.
Couple of announcements. After the scores were posted we had 1 Flight promotion. Matt Walker new index puts him into the C Flight. Good luck and embrace the challenge in your new flight. During the round on Monday I witnessed the shorted missed putt that I've ever seen. I won't mention any names, but.....hist last name is longer than mine :) After missing a birdie putt that was hanging on the lip of the hole, this golfer decided to back hand the ball into the hole, but...the back of the putter did not strike the ball in the middle and the ball and he caught it a little low and it jumped over the hole leaving about 6 inches for bogie...which was then missed again.
He was not happy at the time and had a few choice words for himself. Of course, we all laughed afterwards and learned another valuable lesson to not take anything for granted.
Our next event takes us to the Palisades CC on Saturday May 18th, please ensure that you sign up and pay to secure your entry. We are already close to 100 registered players and we will close out registration once we get to 112 paid players.
Thanks
