99 player’s teed it up at Cabarrus CC on this Saturday
afternoon. Cabarrus CC is celebrating
its 90th anniversary this year and the course is as fine as ever. I'd like to thank Ken Guilford and all the
staff and members that welcomed and thanked us for choosing their course for
our event.
In the Championship Flight, It was Wally Love that claimed
his first ever victory in this flight.
Wally has been playing great all year and it all came together today as
he was able to par his last 4 holes en-route to a 2 over par 74 and a 1 shot
victory over Kyle Moffett and Jim Aughtry, both players shooting 75. Jared Jewett shot 76 to take home solo 4th.
In the A Flight it was Johnny Moffett who took home top
honors with great round of 76. Mark
Ballew was only one shot back shooting 77.
Mike Lynch continues to play well after joining the tour a few weeks
back and won a scorecard playoff over Paul Aschmann, both players shot 78. Rounding out the top 5 was Judd Dye who shot
79.
In the B Flight, we had some late hole drama as Terry
Upright appeared to have things under control until a last hole double bogie
put him into a tie with Vic Lawrence, both players at 7 over par. The only problem was that Vic still had one
more hole to play. We knew that there
would be no playoff as Vic posted a bogie on his final hole to provide Terry
with the margin of victory. As noted,
Vic took home second with a score of 80.
Cliff Sult took home third place with an 81 and Robert Taggart took home
4th with a score of 82.
In the C Flight, it was Greg Bentley, that took home first
place honors with a score of 83. Max
Fuchs was second at 84 and Jim Wittersheim won a scorecard playoff over Larry Hinson, both
players shooting 85. More on Jim later
in the story.
In the D Flight it was Keith Gibson who shot 89, which was
good enough for a 4 shot victory over Mark Stone. Jacobi Jones took home the final paying spot
shooting 94 and winning a scorecard playoff over Toby Strickland and Derek
Kemp.
Now....for the big news...the Carryover pot for the Super
skins was paid out on this afternoon.
Two players split the Super skin pot of $1770. Jim Wittersheim (birdie on hole 7) and Daniel
Gleason (birdie on hole 9) went home with $885 each.
