Local finals end the 2011 regular season! On to Hilton Head and the Tour Championship!
The Charlotte Local Finals ends the regular season as winners are crowned for both the tournament and Points Winners!
Joe Jaspers lead by 2 shots over Jim Aughtry after posting a one under par 71 at the Palisades on Saturday. Joe fired the same number again on Sunday a 71 for a 2 day total of 142 and his second major victory of the season. Shooting the low round of day 2 David Schmidt put a little heat on Jaspers but finished 3 shots back at 145 for second place. Billy Hall made up a lot of ground also on Sunday firing a 2 under par 69 to finish in third place at 147. Jim Aughtry shot 73-76=142 to finish in fourth place but just Nipped Jaspers for the points title by only 5 points. With the whole year played out Aughtry beat out Jaspers 5295 points to 5290 for Japers, as close as you can get under the current points system congrats Jim on your 8th points title since 1999.
Daryl Ewing played consistent both days as he fired 83-79-162 for the major victory. Ewing started two back but made up ground as he fired on of 2 79s in A flight at CC of Salisbury. Finishing two shots back was Rob Phillips at 164 followed by Dennis Reams and Jason Breedlove at 166. Reames beat out Breedlove on the card playoff for third place money.
The A Flight point’s winner was Steven Clippard by a wide margin over Dennis Reames. It was Clippard’s first ever points title.
Seth Wilson came from three shots back Sunday to claim his first ever Major Championship victory. After round one tour Vet Jimmy Chapman lead by 3 shots after firing 81 at The Palisades on Saturday. Wilson however put on the big Sunday charge shooting 79 for a 2 day total of 163. Stu Timku also fired 79 Sunday and with it vaulted ahead of players to finish in second place with 166. Jimmy Chapman day one leader did manage a third place finish at 169, Virginia’s Matt Clarke came from way back with a fine 82 on Sunday and solo fourth place at 175. Not only did Wilson come way back to beat Chapman in the tournament but also in the season long point’s race. Seth Wilson won his first ever B Flight points title over Chapman.
Charles Mines has been playing for over 5 years on tour and finally notched his first ever major victory. Mine fired a 2 day total of 181 to beat Ken Burke and Dana Greer by three shots. Both Burke and Greer fired 184’s with Burke grabbing second place on the card playoff. Rounding out the top four was Sindo Mayor and Richard Cairns both shot 185 with Mayor cashing in on the card. The C flight point’s winner was another first timer as Dana Greer beat out tour vet John Rinaldi for the crystal.
