Championship Flight:
Finally a perfect day for golf and scoring on Saturday as 75 and sunny skies prevailed. Being such a great day Jim Aughtry and Joe Jaspers decided they would like to play extra holes as the two tied with even par 72’s. On the sudden-death playoff both men missed birdies on number one but then Aughtry grabbed his first win of the season with a birdie at the par five second hole. Newcomer Greg Harrol continues to impress as he cashed again with a third place finish at 75. David Helms rounded out the top four spots with 76.
A Flight:
Greg Ries was four over par with 6 to play and having a nice day on the links. The Ries birdied the short par 5 17th hole finished the day up at 74. This gives Greg his first victory of the young season as he beat out 2 other players by three shots. Mike Nasekos who always plays well at Edgewater did so again on Saturday by carding a 77 which tied Doug Watson for second place. Watson captured third by loosing the card playoff. Three players stood tied at 78 with Don Bridges beating out Jason Breedlove & Derek Dustin on the card for 4th place money.
B Flight:
Toby Tyler finally had a hot putter and won by three shots Saturday with an impressive 78. The score also vaulted Tyler back into A Flight for the rest of the season as his AGT Index dropped to 8.2. Jimmy Chapman fired 81 on Saturday good enough for second place and his good friend Vic Lawrence finished one behind with a third place 82. Rounding out the top four was Adam Wilson at 83.
C Flight:
Again this flight saw a first time winner as Scott Grigg followed Dana Greer from last week in capturing his first ever Golfweek Amateur Tour crystal. Grigg fired a smooth 85 on Saturday to just nip Ken Burke and Sindo Mayor. Both Burke and Mayor fired 86’s with Burke grabbing second spot on the card. Matt Crates still looks for his first victory this year but finished in fourth spot only two back at 87.
