Ries wins in sudden-death playoff!
Championship Flight:
Chad Frye continues his dominance in this season posting his fourth win of the year. Frye had to come from behind for this victory firing a 3 under 33 on his final nine holes. Chad's 72 just got him the victory by one shot over Chase Wilson and Joe Jaspers. Both player's shot 73's. Michael Bailey beat out Dave Schmidt on the score card playoff for 4th place with a 74.
A Flight:
Greg Ries and Steve French are one/two in the points race and also were Saturday at Birkdale. After the 18 holes were completed both men stood tied at 79. Ries won the sudden-death playoff on the first hole after French drove his tee shot out-of-bounds. Mark Cousar cashed for the first time this season, besting Steve Williams on the card for third place. Both Cousar and Williams shot 81's.
B Flight:
Chad Ballard started his round just like a typical B flighter Saturday firing a 41 one his first nine. Then his putter got hot and he made 4 birdies on his second nine for a smooth 34. Chad's total of 75 not only got him the victory but a much deserved promotion to the A Flight. Congrat's Chad on your continued improvement. Mark Hawkins also played exceptionally well Saturday and finshed second with 77. Mike Nasekos and Jeff Cayo both shot 80's, but Nasekos beat out Cayo on the card for third place.
C Flight:
With only three groups left out on the course it look as if Nolan Elenz was going to get his first victory of the season. After the last 2 groups finished we had a three way playoff at 89. Tom Patania and Matt Papes both finshed strong to tie Elenz. Off to sudden-victory they all went with Tom Patania besting both Elenz and Papes on the first hole. It was Patania's first victory of the season, in this being his first year on tour. Jeff Gastineau and Ken Burke finshed tied for fourth place with 90's, with Gastineau beating out Burke on the card.
