Joe Jaspers, Tim Smith, Terry Upright, John Page, Toby Strickland all win the Players Championship!
93 golfers Tee'd it up over this past weekend at two different courses in the Charlotte area. Luckily we had an event that did not involve rain, but that did not leave the golfers unscathed. The heat and humidity took its toll over the two-day event.
In the Champ flight, we had the only On-course playoff. Randy Dockins and Joe Jaspers made up the ground on the leaders on Sunday by shooting a 5 under 67 and 4 under 68 respectfully to Tie for the lead at 141 (3 under par). In the playoff, Jaspers, who birdied his final three holes of the tournament, continued his streak of birdies by making birdies on both playoff holes to take the victory. Taking home 3rd place was Jim Aughtry who fired even par 72's on both days of the event. 4th place went to Steve French who shot a great round of 2 under par 70 to beat out Jared Autrey in a tiebreaker.
In the A Flight, Tim Smith takes home the first place trophy for the second year in a row. Tim shot 75 on both days to take a one shot victory over Chicago Tour member, Jason Schram. Keith Hudson shot the only other under par round on Sunday and passed a few players on his way to taking 3rd place. Keith posted rounds of 81-71 (152 total). Taking home the 4th place prize was one of the 1st round leaders, Scott Ide who finished with a two-day total of 153.
In the B flight, Terry Upright came from 5 shots back to take the title. Terry shot 84-76 for a two-day total of 160. Mike Kim, our overnight leader could not hold off Terry but still finished in 2nd place with a two-day total of 162. Patrick O'Connor and Allen Hagen tied for 3rd, but it was O'Connor taking 3rd place by way of scorecard playoff, leaving Hagen with 4th place honors.
In the C Flight, again we had a come from behind winner. John Page took home the victory with a two-day total of 172. Gene Bass also made up some ground and finished 2nd with 174. Day 1 leader Steve Daniels indicated he had putting issues and finished 3rd at 175. 4th place went to Chuck Young shooting a two-day total of 176.
In the D Flight, Toby Strickland set the pace and never looked back. Toby's two-day total of 177 was 10 better than 2nd place Derek Kemp who won a Tiebreaker for 2nd place by shooting the better day 2 score over Mark Stone.
