Palisades CC - Recap
5/18/2019
A hot and sunny day greeted the 114 players at Palisades Country Club on this Saturday afternoon on the west side of Charlotte. Before the day started, we held our 50/50 draws for Stand Up To Cancer and on Saturday we donated another $285 to our Charity of choice. Before the round we drew out two tickets, the first ticket was for the $285 and was held by Rondal Gibson. The second draw was for the dozen Pro V1 golf balls which was won by Dan Ahlers. I cannot say thank you enough to the players that take part in this optional "game" each event. To date we have now raised over $2700 which is still way above our pace from last year. So, Thank you very much. Now onto the golf.
In the Championship Flight, Joe Jaspers birdied his last 4 holes (15-18) on the day to finish with the only sub-par round of the day. Joe's 69 (-3) was 6 better than second place Scott Roberts who shot 75 (+3). We had a tie for 3rd place with 2 golfers tying at 78 (+6) and had to go to the scorecards to settle it. In the end, David Schmidt took home 3rd and Jay Barnes takes home 4th.
In the A Flight, Scott Ilowite wins with an outstanding round of 74 (+2) to win by 3 over Stefano Smith who shot 77 (+5) on his home course and take home 2nd place honors. Third thru fifth place had to be settled by the scorecard playoff as we had 4 golfer tie with identical 79s (+7) on the day. In the end, Jason Benguchi takes third, Michael Brandenburg takes home fourth and Scott Ide takes fifth and the last remaining paying position. Yours truly was left on the outside looking in.
In the B Flight, Michael Guarino takes home first place with a round of 84 (+12) winning by 1 shot over Tyler Phillips (85) and Allen Hagen (85). Tyler beat out Allen on the scorecard playoff. Again we went to the scorecard playoff to settle fourth thru sixth places as we had 3 golfer tie with 86 (+14). Robert Gruendel takes home fourth, AJ Allmendinger takes home 5th and Wilson Isaac takes home sixth.
In the C Flight, Rondal Gibson and Joseph Jones (Columbia Tour) had to go back to hole 18 to determine the winner after both players tied with 87 (+15). It only took one hole as Rondal was able to par the very difficult par 4, 18th to secure the victory. Brent Coffey and Cyril Daniel tied at 90 (+18) but it was Brent who wins the scorecard playoff and took home third, Cyril taking home fourth. Darren Decroock (Upstate tour) takes home 5th place after shooting 93 (+21) Once Scores were posted, Rondal Gibson graduated to the B flight after his AGT index dropped below 14.0.
In the D Flight, Toby Strickland takes home 1st place honors shooting 89 (+17) and winning by 4 shots over Brad Griego who used his home course knowledge to shoot 93 (+21) and take home second place honors. Third place goes to Richard Zonjic after shooting 98 (+26).
Our next event takes us to Lake Norman for our annual Tuesday event at the Peninsula Club in Cornelius, NC. We have a 10:00 Shotgun start on this day and we are already very close to another sell out. Please ensure that you are registered and paid if you want to guarantee your spot in the field.
Thanks, as always
