Stand up to Cancer drive raffles for the June tournaments. Once again the Golfweek Amateur Tours will donate a year end check to Stand up to Cancer at the Tour Championship. To date we have raised over $28,000 around the country with Team Charlotte getting ready to support the cause. For those of you new to the tour we started are SUTC Team as a tribute to loosing one of our own Tour Directors at age 40 in 2008. Roger Mitterling had been a director for 12 years and when he got diagnosed with cancer he was gone in less than 2 years. Also, I lost my mother at 51 to Lymphoma and I know many of you have been touched by this terrible disease.
We will draw all the prizes day two of the major at Irish Creek. Tickets are $20 each and you can buy as many as you want. There will be a button on the credit card payment page for easy payment or bring check or cash to any of the tournaments. You do not have to be present to win so please at least give on ticket a chance for the cause.
Also many tours last year did a 50/50 drawing for $10 a ticket. At Irish Creek day one we should have over 100 players so if everyone puts in just $10ea we will have $1,000 in the pot so $500 to the winner!
Prizes include:
Free Foursome to Myer Park CC
Free Foursome to Irish Creek
Free Foursome to The Palisades
2 x $25 gift cards from Longhorns Steakhouse
2 x $25 gift cards from Chili’s
2 x $25 gift cards from Edwin Watts
The Golfweek Amateur Tour in has risen over $29,000 making our team the 6th highest fundraising team in Stand Up to Cancer history!
2011 Local Tour Monies:
Championship Flight:
Hyun Chung started his front nine in fine fashion shooting a 2 under par round 34 trying to become the first tour member this year to win 3 in a row. Hyun’s attempt came to an abrupt halt when he made a 9 at the 12th hole on Saturday. That let newcomer Mark Absher and Jay Barnes in the lead where the finished tied with 74’s. Going back to the 18th hole Absher captured his first ever victory with a par in sudden-death, for Barnes it was his second sudden-death loss this season but just a matter of time until he get’s his first victory. Dave Brown narrowly missed the playoff as his missed a short put on the 18th but did manage third place on the card over the Triad’s James Moore. Both Brown and Moore posted 75’s.
A Flight:
Roger Stevenson also won for the first time all season as he was the only A Flight player to break 80 with a winning score of 77. Mel Hemminger from the Upstate, Kevin Ronan and Sean Robbins all fired 80’s but it was Hemminger on the card playoff grabbing second place money and Ronan third.
