Meadowbrook Brought the Drama
The Meadowbrook Invitational delivered a championship Monday worthy of one of the Richmond area’s premier private clubs. Five flight titles were on the line, and by the end of the afternoon two of them still could not be decided after 18 holes.
Derek Lee survived a one-shot battle to capture Championship Flight. Chris Wright produced the low winning round of the day with a 76 in A Flight. Then the tension ratcheted up. Sean Redmond and Minh Huynh both posted 78 in B Flight, while Aaron Rinaldi and Michael Mathisen matched each other at 85 in C Flight.
That sent both flights back out with championships hanging in the balance. Redmond emerged from the B Flight playoff, while Rinaldi survived the C Flight showdown to claim his title. Hal Lare left no such opening in D Flight, firing an 84 and finishing five shots clear of the nearest challengers.
Five flights. Two playoffs. One championship Monday. Meadowbrook delivered.
