Forest Oaks
September 14, 2024
On Saturday September 14th, the Central Carolina Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour checked into the Forest Oaks CC in Greensboro to compete in the final regular season event of 2024. The weather could not have been more accommodating for the golfers.
Some incredible golf was on display in the Champ flight as two golfers shot four under par rounds of 68 which led to a sudden victory playoff. Neither Chip Collins nor James Hockman deserved a runner up slot, but the playoff would turn one of those rounds of 68 into a second place finish. The playoff began on hole one, and left the first playoff hole green with two pars. On hole two Chip and James both made par again. When James pulled his ball out of the cup on the third green he had his par in hand. However, Chip stepped up and rolled in his birdie putt to give him the hard fought victory. Awesome golf gentlemen. Congrats Chip! James Thomas Moore snagged third place with his score of 75, while John Massoti from the Eastern NC Tour took fourth by carding 76. Rounding out the top five Kyle Wesolowski posted a 77.
In the A flight, Aaron Bayles shot a three over par round of 75 to capture the win by three strokes. Well done Aaron! Roger Stevenson from the Charlotte Tour produced the runner up round of 78, while Andrew Britt grabbed third place as he carded a 79. Jamie Hollis became the fourth place finisher by posting a score of 81, and Russell McDonald from the Charlotte Tour completed the top five list by recording his round of 83.
Steven Zannos from the Charlotte Tour finished the season on a high note by winning back to back events in the B flight as he posted 81 to take the win by three shots. Awesome golf Steven! Mark Peele and David Pitt were dual runners up as they both recorded rounds of 84. Brien Cozart from the Eastern NC Tour placed fourth with a score of 86, while Allen Hagen from the Charlotte Tour rounded out the top five with his round of 87.
In the C flight, Justin Cook wrestled Forest Oaks to the ground and fired a round of 90 to take his first win on the tour this year by a single shot. Way to go Justin! The runner up score of 91 was turned in by Robert Hockman, and Danny Perrault snagged third place with a score of 93. Fourth place was a T4 finish as Tour Director Sola Edwards and Steve Carlyle turned in matching scores of 96.
In the D flight, Ralph Bevis posted a round of 93 and pulled off a two shot victory. It was Ralph’s second win in the last five weeks. Good job Ralph! Austin Groom recorded the runner up round of 95, while Barry Whitesell’s round of 101 put him in the third place slot. Tom Kubla posted his round of 102 as he took fourth place, and Greg Green rounded out the top five by carding 105.
I would like to thank everyone for a great 2024 season. And for those going to the National Finals in Hilton Head, good luck to you all. The 2025 season will be here before you know it.

In the C flight, Witson Rodrigues made a huge comeback on the difficult Champ Course posting an 85 to go along with his 90 from the day before on Players to give him a total of 175 and the single shot victory. Great golf Witson! Bill Mock ended the day in second place carding 82-94-176, while Christy McCauley from the Washington DC Metro Tour and Frank Brammer from the Charlotte Tour both recorded scores of 177. Christy shot 83-94 but Frank’s scores were 87-90. Rounding out the top five Dustin McClanahan posted 87-91-178, and Mike Groom mirrored the 178 but with scores of 90-88.
Brandon Miller from the Charlotte Tour was very consistent for the two days of the competition in the D flight as he carded 88-88-176 to wrap up the three stroke victory. Way to go Brandon! The two runner ups were quite consistent themselves as Michael Kessler’s 179 was made up of 91-88 scores, while Tour Director Sola Edward’s 179 used scores of 90-89. Nick Dalessandro’s 89-94-183 put him into the fourth place slot, while Ralph Bevis cleaned up the top five places by shooting 90-99-189.
If you didn’t feel like doing the math, Central Carolina toppled Charlotte by 9 strokes. It was calculated by taking each tour’s 2 best scores in each of the 5 flights and simply adding them together.
Next up for the Central Carolina Tour will be in Thomasville taking on the fabulous Colonial CC on Saturday June 1st with a 2pm shotgun start. If you never played Colonial before you really should give it a go. And if you have played it before you don’t need any coaxing. So sign up today!
The Challenge GC
May 4, 2024
On Saturday May 4th, the Central Carolina Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour rolled into Graham to accept the challenge that is the Challenge Golf Club. The course did not disappoint.
In the Champ flight, Justin Lang pulled off a two stroke victory with his round of 76. Well done Justin! Steven Hamby’s 78 was the runner up score, wh O ile Jansen Perdue and Kyle Moffett ended the day T3 matching scorecards with 79. James Thomas Moore rounded out the top five with a score of 80.
It was nip and tuck all day in the A flight, but in the end it was Brad Wicker standing alone in first place with a score of 80. Good job Brad! Kevin Woroch finished a single shot back with 81, while Jamie Hollis grabbed third place with his round of 82. Meanwhile, Mike Martin and Buck Kercheval finished T4 by shooting a pair of 84’s.
Eighteen holes of golf couldn’t produce a winner in the B flight as three players shot identical scores of 83. So Jean-Claude Fils-Aime, David Pitt, and Sebastian Restrepo made their way to hole one for a sudden victory playoff. The playoff didn’t last long as Sebastian and David unfortunately hit their tee shots Out of Bounds while Jean-Claude striped it down the middle. J-C then calmly hit the green and two putted for a par and the victory. Kudos Jean-Claude! Shawn Cacioppo and Ben Foster both posted 86 in a T4 ending.
In the C flight, Witson Rodrigues hung on to a slim one shot lead to shoot 85 taking the victory and the crystal. Great golf Witson! Runner up Ed McNally came in with a score of 86, while Myke Mclaughlin placed third as he carded a round of 88. Fourth place was yet another tie as Wesley Upchurch and Steve Carlyle both recorded scores of 91.
Visiting Columbia SC member Tim Rabon, playing in the D flight, posted a very nice round of 89 to take the win by four shots. Way to go Tim! It was a tie for the runner up position as Tia Shoemaker and Austin Groom both carded scores of 93. Fourth place was snagged by Ralph Bevis with a round of 94, while our very own Tour Director Sola Edwards rounded out the top five shooting 95.

To round out the top five Spurling Cook carded a round of 77.
Brad Wicker shot a smooth 77 in the A flight to take the crystal and his first win of the season. Great job Brad! Just like in the Champ flight, the runner up slot was a three way tie as Buck Kercheval, Jamie Hollis, and Dana Parziale all posted matching scorecards of 79. Visiting Alabama Tour member Tyrone Davis shot 80 to finish in fifth place, while Theo Gioles and Jerry May ended their day T6 with scores of 81.
In the B flight, Christopher Champagne had a comfortable lead and finished with 78 to win by five shots for his first win of the year. Kudos Christopher! Bill Mock posted an excellent score of 83 in the C flight to take the victory by an amazing seven strokes for his first win this year. Great golf Bill! Benton Smith continued his fine play as runner up with a round of 87. John White grabbed third place honors posting 88, while Jonathon Rabon shot 91 to snag fourth place. Carolina Trace
"The Challenge"
April 6 & 7, 2024
On Saturday April 6th, the Central Carolina Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour came to the “most central point” in North Carolina, Sanford. The reason for the trip was not a geography lesson, but Day 1 of golf competition on the beautiful Creek and Lakes courses of Carolina Trace. Cool temps and good course conditions welcomed the players.
In the Champ flight, 36 holes of golf failed to produce an outright winner as Chip Collins(72-78) and Steven Hamby(74-76) shot two day totals of 150 which demanded an on course playoff as per tour rules. So the players proceeded to hole one to decide the winner once and for all. After matching scores on holes 1 and 2, they came to the par 5 third hole. Chip’s shot out of the greenside bunker came to rest just 10” from the hole and produced a tap in birdie. Steve had a birdie putt of his own but not as close as Chips. Steve’s putt rolled just outside the hole giving him a par and Chip the victory. Great golf by both players. Well done Chip! Chase Suitt posted scores of 73-80-153 for a third place finish. Wes Strader from the Eastern NC Tour carded 76-80-156 grabbing fourth place, while David Cook also from the Eastern Tour made a good comeback by shooting 82-78-160 to round out the top five.
Dalton Johnston played two consistent rounds allowing him to make a comeback from two back in the A flight by firing an 84-85-169 to claim the victory. Good job Dalton! TD Chuck Smith posted the runner up total of 82-88-170, while Brad Wicker finished third posting 89-82-171. Two Eastern NC Tour players ended the day T4 with two day totals of 172. Ken Gray did it with scores of 85-87, and Matthew Graley 88-84.
In the B flight, Brien Cozart from the Eastern NC Tour would likely be the first to admit day one was not what he hoped for as he posted 91. But he more than made up for it by shooting a very nice 82 to win(173) the flight by three shots. Kudos Brien! Steven Zannos from the Charlotte Tour held on to the runner finish posting 88-88-176. Third place was a tie at 177 with Shawn Cacioppo 88-99, and Dwayne Brabble 91-86. Scott Prouty from the Eastern NC Tour rounds out the top five shooting 88-90-178.
Duncar Jaggers was hanging around the top of the C flight leader board all day on day one. He closed Saturday a couple shots out the lead posting 93. But he came out firing the second day and carded an excellent round of 84 for a total of 177 to win by 5 strokes. Great golf Duncan! Bill Mock’s 92-90-182 was good enough to make him runner up. Witson Rodrigues fired rounds of 97-95-192 to take third place, while Joseph Luthman carded scores of 94-99-193 to wrap up fourth. Fifth place was a three way tie at 194 by Jonathon Honeycutt 90-104, Ed McNally 98-96, and Myke Mclaughlin 102-92.
Johnny Hayes from the Eastern NC Tour shot the low round of day two in the D flight, a 90 to add to his 97 to make his two day total 187 making him the victor by five strokes. Way to go Johnny! Dylin Cook-Watt, also from the Eastern NC Tour made the runner up finish by carding 95-97-192, while Tom Kubla took down third place by posting 101-92-193. Joan Wicker placed fourth carding 95-105-200, while Ryker Wicker rounded out the top five with scores of 101-95-201.
Next up for the Central Carolina Golfweek Tour will be the Chapel Ridge GC in Pittsboro on Saturday April 27th with a 9am straight tee time start. Come check out the new greens and renovation done to this classic course!
Bayonet Golf Course
March 23, 2024
On Saturday March 23rd, the Central Carolina Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour arrived at the Bayonet at Puppy Creek in Raeford. It was a cool spring day, and not even a brief shower could cool down the enthusiasm of the competitors.
In the Champ flight, eighteen holes of golf did not produce a winner as Chip Collins and Larry Hardee both shot rounds of even par 72. By Tour rules an on course playoff was required so they made their way to the first hole to sort things out. Hole one was halved as both players made par so the match continued. Hole two was a different story, as Chip rolled in a birdie putt that Larry was unable to match allowing Chip to claim his first win in 2024. Well done Chip! James Thomas Moore finished solo third place posting 75, while Chris Collins from the Charleston SC Tour and Stephen Pippin from the Eastern NC Tour ended their rounds T4 with scores of 77.
Andrew Britt started quickly in the A flight and kept the pedal to the metal to eventually win by four strokes with a round of 76. Great job Andrew! Brad Wicker and Mike Martin both carded 80 to tie for the runner up position. Anthony Davis fired 82 to snag fourth place alone, while Victor Rivera and Jamie Hollis both shot 83 in a T5 finish.
In the B flight, Sebastian Restrepo brought Bayonet to its knees as he posted a round of 77 for a nine stroke victory. Kudos Sabastian! As in the A flight, another tie for the runner up spot occurred when David Pitt and Robin Neverve from the Eastern NC Tour both recorded rounds of 86. Not to be outdone, three players finished T4 as Toby Sheehan, Shawn Cacioppo, and Ben Foster all carded stores of 89.
As in the Champ flight, eighteen holes of golf failed to produce a winner in the C flight as well. In this case Justin Barefoot from the Eastern NC Tour and Willie Johnson turned in identical rounds of 89, so out to the course they went. When they arrived at the green of the par 5 first hole, Justin got down for a par. Willie had a straight uphill putt for his own par from the left side of the green. He hit it pure and it rolled straight at the hole. Unfortunately his putt came to rest on the lip of the hole for a heartbreaking bogey. Great golf Justin. Joe Porter from the Eastern NC Tour and Bill Mock recorded matching scores of 90 to finish T3, while Steve Carlyle rounded out the top five posting 92.
In the D flight, TD Sola Edwards shot a fantastic round of golf carding 84 to run away from the field taking the three stroke victory. Sola has been knocking on the win door and now has kicked it open. Way to go Sola! Tom Kubla gave it his all but could not keep up with Sola but did manage to take the runner up spot posting 87. Danny Avina and Ralph Bevis shot 95 to end the event with a T3 finish, while Danny Pyles completed the top five list with his round of 104.
Next up for the Central Carolina Golfweek Tour is the first annual two day Carolina Challenge, as Central Carolina will do battle with the Eastern NC Tour for golf bragging rights. The event will be held at Carolina Trace CC in Sanford on Saturday and Sunday, April 6th & 7th. It will be an 8am shotgun start on both fantastic courses. The roster is filling up fast, so sign up now!!
MacGregor Downs CC
March 5, 2024
The Central Carolina Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour took on MacGregor Downs CC in Cary on Monday March 5th. It was typical spring weather but wet conditions made scoring a little more difficult.

It was a tie for the runner up position as Robert Dabbs and Kyle Moffett shot scores of 76, while Coston Fogleman claimed fourth place with a round of 77. Stephen Pippin from the Eastern NC Tour and Spurling Cook ended the day T5 as both competitors carded 79.
In the A flight, Mike Levister recorded a score of 78 to grab the three stroke victory. Great job Mike! Brian Bunn, Jerry May, and Dana Parziale posted 84 to finish sixth.
The B flight was a dog fight all day, but as the dust settled it was Mike Ivy alone in first with a score of 84 taking the win. Kudos Mike! Ricky Urbach took control of second place shooting 85, while Shawn Cacioppo and Toby Sheehan were T3 finishers posting 86’s. TD Chuck Smith and Gavin Locklear ended the day T4 by carding 87’s, while Jeremy Penderman and Mike Martin matched scorecards posting 88 for a T6 day.
In the B flight, eighteen holes of golf was not enough to produce a winner in regulation so a sudden victory playoff was required as Toby Sheehan, Shawn Cacioppo, and Benjamin Graham from the Eastern NC Tour all posted scores of 84. The playoff contestants proceeded to the Orange 1 hole to get it on. Toby and Shawn both parred the hole and returned to the same hole due to play ahead. The second time around Toby made par again but this time Shawn was not able to cover the par making Toby the winner. Kudos Toby! Benjamin left the event prior to its finish and missed the playoff thus he placed third. C.J. Jackson and Sebastian Restrepo ended the day T4 as both players carded 89.
Mark Brannon from the Eastern NC Tour made the drive to Lillington worthwhile as his round of 86 held on to win the C flight by a single stroke. Good shooting Mark!
