Peninsula Recap.
An overcast day greeted 119 players at the Peninsula Club in
Lake Norman on this Tuesday afternoon.
it was a full field due to the Super Skin carry over that would be paid
out later in the day to three players taking home $657 each for their skins
made on this day.
In the Champ Flight it was new member Ryan Smith who shot
the round of the day, 1 under par 71.
This was a great score on a long course made longer by the wet
conditions. Jay Barnes and Joe Jaspers
tied at 75 but it was Barnes who took home second place. Rounding out the top 4 was Mike Gentry with a score of 76.
In the A flight it was Central Carolina member, Ivan Jones,
who took home the top honors on this day with a score of 75. Solo 2nd went to Kevin Ronan with a score of
77. 3rd, 4th and 5th had to be decided
by the scorecard playoff method as 5 players tied for 3rd with scores of
80. In the end, it was myself (Phil
VanGeersdaelen) getting 3rd, Mark Ballew getting 4th and Paul Aschmann taking
home the 5th place prize. Johnny Moffett
and Seth Holloman also shot 80.
In the B flight, Cliff Sult built up a big lead early in the
round and kept it there till the end.
His score of 78 was 6 better than runners up, Rengan Srinivason and Flip
Lea (Central Carolina) who both shot 84.
Rengan beat Flip on the scorecard playoff. Sean Ahn and Kirk Tatge tied for 4th with
scores of 85, but it was Sean winning the score card playoff. Kirk had to settle for the 5th and final
prize payout on this day.
In the C flight, we had a bunch of first-timers. Dirk Krause won his first event since joining
the tour earlier this year with a great score of 84. Scott Cain, making his 2017 Charlotte debut,
finished second with and 85. Karin Shi
(our only female member of the Charlotte Tour this year), cracked the top 3
with a score of 88. John Andersen took
home the 4th place honors with a score of 91.
In the D flight we had another run-away winner. Mark Stone shot a score of 96 to win by 6
shots over tour newcomer and Peninsula member, Danny McGovern who shot 102. Tommy Jerkins took home 3rd place with a
score of 103.
Out next event keeps us North of Charlotte as we will be
playing River Run CC on Monday June 5th.
Spots are still available, so register now to avoid being shut out.
