Local Finals Recap
Competition at its Finest. Most flight winners were not decided until the final holes were
completed on Sunday as it appeared we may be headed to On Course playoffs for 3
of the flights with just a a few holes remaining.
In the Champ Flight 19 golfers competed on this final
weekend. Joe Jaspers came from behind on Sunday shooting rounds of 70-71 (-2)
to capture his second Major of the year. Scott Roberts held the lead coming into day 2 and was tied with Jaspers
until a bogie on 17 put him one shot back. Scott finished second shooting 69-73 (-1) for
the two days. After a slow start on
Saturday, our 2018 flight champion, Jay Barnes (75-69, +1) came back with a
nice round on Sunday to capture third place. Completing the top 4 was Jody Clary (74-71, +2) who was 4 under on his
round coming into the final 2 holes on Sunday, but double bogies on 17 and 18
cost him the chance of victory.
In the A Flight 32 golfers competed on this final
weekend. Johnny Moffett (72-75, +4) who
came into Sunday with a share of the lead, got off to a fast start and never
looked back. It was still tight coming
into the last hole as he only had a 1 shot lead over Kevin Ronan, but a birdie
couple with a double bogie by Kevin put the icing on the cake. Ronan (75-76, +8) was second. Third place went to Michael Brandenburg
(72-80, +9) who like Moffett, came in to Day 2 with a share of the lead, but
was not able to keep up with Johnny on day 2. 4th went to Ronneil Herron (77-79, +13) and 5th went to Paul Aschmann
(78-79, +14)
In the B Flight 27 golfers competed on this final weekend.
Xin Zhang (81-83, +21) came away with a 4 shot victory over 2 golfers. Justin Boyd (84-84, +25) was second based on
the 2nd day score tiebreaker. Dustin
Zimmerman (82, 86, +25) was third. Ben
Hughes (81-89, +27) took home 4th and Clif Morgan (88-83, +28) won the
tie-breaker over John Andersen (86-85, +28) to take home 5th and last paying
position.
In the C Flight 20 golfers competed on this final
weekend. Rondal Gibson (85-80, +22)
takes home the first place honors and a 3 shot victory over Michael Guarino
(90-78, +25) who came on very strong on Sunday to pass a number of players on
his way to second place and the overall points championship for the C Flight in
2018. Third went to Ben Gilbert (87-84, +28)
and Fourth went to Glen Nutting (85-89, +31).
In the D Flight, 7 golfer took to the course to compete on the
final weekend. Steve Daniels (90-90,
+37) takes home a 5 shot victory over Richard Zonjic (99-86, +42). Richard was coming on strong on Sunday, but
like myself was keeping tabs on the Detroit Lions score during the round. When they lost, it through us off our games
and caused our demise.
Thanks Again to everyone that came out in 2018 and competed
this year. We will be announcing our
2019 schedule which will be our 25th season, shortly after the Tour
Championship completes.
Thanks
Phil
