2024 CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND
SEPT 28 & 29 UPDATE!
What a finish to the 2024 Season! Several Season Flight Championships were in play; We had a playoff and some 18 hole fireworks to determine winners!
First, we have to acknowledge the incredible staff and crew at Monroe Country Club for the amazing job to ready the course after #Helene came through our area. We are saddened by all the destruction in the Western Carolinas and our heart goes out to all who are affected.
Day One play in the Champ Flight determined that it was going to be dogfight to the end between David Schmidt and Tyler Earwood. Schmidt took a one shot overnight lead carding a -1, 71. Earwood was one off the lead with an Even Par 72. The two battled all day on Day 2 with Earwood making a "SW KIM" like par on 17 and birdied 18 to force a play off. Schmidt was able to prevail after a three-hole playoff on 18.

A Flight featured a knotted season-point championship leaderboard between @Roger Stevenson, Scott Ide, and Danny Sweetman. Roger took the clubhouse lead on Day One edging out the field by 2 strokes and a +4, 76. On Day Two, new comer and recent winner, Tony Mangini emerged from the pack and challenged the lead all day with Sweetman. One behind on the 18th hole Sweetman buried a 50 ft putt for a birdie and hopes of a playoff. And it was not to be as Mangini sealed his win with his own birdie from 30 ft! Stevenson held on to the third spot to edge his points to the 2024 Season Points Champion. |
Nick Adams led a jammed up leaderboard in B Flight by just one stroke after Day One with an 80. Four other competitors were spread within 4 strokes of the lead going into Day 2. Despite a respectable charge by Steven Zannos carding a scorching 76, it wasn't enough to catch Adams who turned in solid 78 round to win the B Flight trophy. Adams with his two-day total was promoted to A Flight - just in time for Nationals!

C Flight was another flight that featured a season points nail bitter between Raymond Hoerr and Frank Brammer. A win for either of them would determine the Season Flight Champion. Hoerr set the pace on Day 1 with an 87 with Golfweek Amateur Tour- Eastern NC player Karen Johnson one shot off the lead. Hoerr held off a late charge by Peter Brenner who shot a second day 88. Hoerr finished two strokes ahead overall and took the trophy. It also sealed his Season Points Championship.
|
D Flight featured Buddy Wynn setting the pace on Day 1 with an awesome 85! He led the field by 5 strokes going into Day 2 and was unable to fend off Craig Brown who bested the field by 4 strokes and shot 84 to take the trophy.
