Championship Flight:
Winds howled Saturday at Cowans Ford CC with gust of up to 40 mphs. When we teed of at 1:30 the last thing I thought of was someone shooting under par. Jim Aughtry proved me wrong as he posted the victory with a one under par 71, congrats on a great round under trying conditions. Andy Price actually had the lead as he posted a two under par 34 on the front nine but then shot 40 on the back nine to finish in second place with 74. New Tour member Randy Peck had his best finish of the young season with a third place 76. Rounding out the top four was Dave Brown with 78.
A Flight:
Brian Jones stepped out on tour for the first time and posted a victory by two shots over Chris Hickey. Jones hoisted the crystal trophy by firing a smooth 76 proving he is a wind player. Chris Hickey shot 78 for second place while Steve Espin made a great par on the eighteenth hole for his 79 and third place. Andrew Chappius playing in his last Charlotte event shot 80 and finished 4th. Drew will however relocate to Atlanta so he will continue to play on tour down there. Hope to see you in Hilton Head Drew.
B Flight:
Richard Ellams beat out two other players to win for the first time this season. Richard fired an 82 for the victory while Tim Stahlschmidt beat out David Hargett on the card for second place. Both players shot 82’s. Geof Smith continues his quest to win for the first time on tour having a nice 4th place finish with 84.
C Flight:
Larry Hinson has always had a good luck at Cowans Ford and the winds did not stop him from winning again here. Hinson just nipped two other players by one shot with 85 and his first victory of the season. Jason Smith and Dana Greer both shot 86’s but it was Smith beating out Greer on the card for second place money. John Rinaldi rounded out the top four spots with 87.
D Flight:
Mike Hill won for the first time all season with a great 89 on Saturday. The rest of the D Flight had been calling Todd McGhee almost unbeatable but McGhee slipped a bit on Saturday but still finished in second place with an even 100. Jimmy Peebles beat out Keith Bowker for third place on the card; both players fired 107.
