The Charleston Golf Week Amateur Tour wrapped up their local
season with a great tournament at Crowfield Plantation. The course was in
excellent shape and the play was spectacular.
The Championship Flight saw long time tour member Marty
Bunch post a great round of one over par to hold off a hard charging Mike Cobb
by a shot and Phil Pfeiffer of Myrtle Beach by two. Marty and Phil figured to be fighting it out
as Marty fired a one under par 35 on the front to Phils even par 36. On the back Marty kept up the great play with
a solid 2 over par 38 to Phils 39. What
the two of them did not see coming was Mike Cobb’s awesome back nine round of
32 with and eagle on 11 and birdies o holes 15 and 18 to pull within a shot of
Marty. Although he finished second in
the tournament, Mike wrapped up the season long race and Charleston’s
Championship flight points leader.
The A flight saw John Ashmore return to the winner’s circle with
a solid round of one over par 73 to claim a five-shot victory for his first win
this year. Darren Navaro and Eric Malan
both fired rounds of 78 to tie for second with Darren winning the score card
playoff based on his back nine score of 36 to Eric’s 41. Eric wasn’t to sad though as he secured his
position as the A flight Champion for the year.
The B flight saw Matt Bryer hold off Jack Sharp for the
victory. Jack and Matt had both posted sold rounds of 4 over par on the front
nine and the two were neck and neck on the back. Jack made the costly bogie on 18 and Matt
secured it with a solid two putt par. Phil
Crowley posted a solid 83 to take home third place money. Tim Sumption had
already secured the season long points Championship
The C flight saw Julie Johnson show that her win at
Crowfield in the spring was no accident as she posted a solid round of 89 for her
third victory of the year. Julie cruised to a three-shot victory over Jim McQuiston. The real battle was between Chris Huge and
Tom Brady to see who would take home the points championship. Chris’s forth place finish left no doubt as
he won his second points championship in as many years.
The D flight points championship had already been wrapped up
by Aaron Chase but it didn’t matter to David Deese as he showed he will be a
factor in the future as he fired a very nice round of 92 for an eight shot
victory over long time tour member Michael Miller who finished one-shot ahead
of Craig Knowlton.
This wraps up our local season. Be on the lookout for off season events and
the 2020 schedule.
