The Charleston Tour played at Berkeley Country Club on Sat March 26th and found some of the best greens in Charleston. Bob Merriman stated their greens have been in great shape for last couple of years and now other local courses, Miler Country Club and Pine Forrest, are actively seeking their advice to improve their greens.
The Championship Flight saw a new entry claim first place as Trevor Scott started his Golf Week Amateur Tour with a Victory by shooting a very solid 78. He also won the Champ/A flight closest to the pin as well as a couple of skins. Welcome to the Tour Trevor.
The A flight saw another new comer enter in the field, Chris Biggers who managed to secure a nice skin in his first event while it was another rookie taking the top honors. Dan Wanner fired a 74 with three birdies to claim the title. Dan's great play also earned him player of the week honors, congratulations Dan.
The B flight saw a three way playoff for first place. James Ravenel, Clay Lancaster and Denny Miller all fired 85. The first hole saw Clay eliminated with a Bogie while James and Denny both made nice pars. On the second hole James hit a great shot only to see the slick greens demonstrate the need to stay below the hole. His chip shot just barely got on the green and then rolled all the way off the front. His up and down was not good enough for the steady Denny who parred his second hole to take the victory.
The C flight saw a return of a true veteran. Ray Carrillo showed up seeking to play one last round before being deployed to Libya on Wed and celebrated with a solid 91 to claim victory prior to deployment. We all wish you the best Ray and hope for your safe return.
The D flight saw our second playoff of the day as Wayne Carter and Cowboy both shot great 91's to out-distance Ashley Rogers by a shot. Both Cowboy and Wayne played to first playoff hole solid, but it was Wayne who made a nice par to secure his first victory on the Amateur Tour, Congratulations Wayne.
