The Charleston Golf Week Amateur ventured down to Seabrook Island for their first trip to Johns Island this year to take on Crooked Oaks Golf course. The golfer were treated to a course that was in great shape, greens rolling true and conditions just a little tough with the wind, perfect conditions for a major!
The Championship Flight saw new comer Chris Asbell run away with top honors by posting an impressive round of 76 from the tips. Matching Chris was Mark Ducker in the A flight who also posted a 76 to secure a 7 shot victory over Biff Huff who posted a solid round of 83. Chase Bibbee returned to the tour and shot an 84 to secure third place in the A flight. The B flight had a solid grouping as Tim Sumption started with an 83 followed by playing partner Jerry Mast who posted an 85 while Denny Miller and Kevin Saylor both shot rounds of 86. Denny took the third place money with an impressive 38 on the back nine. The C flight saw Mitch, I can’t win on this tour” actually win! Mitch has been playing great golf and it finally paid off as he posted a solid round of 85 to take top honors in the C flight. Jason Courtney posted a nice round and finished two shots back with an 87 and Ricky Winter sneaked into the top three again with an 88. The D flight saw Vince Ackerman continue his solid play for his back to back victory. Vince posted a round of 97 for top honors one shot better than William beck who followed with an 88. Overall it was a great day for golf as the weather was pleasant and the staff and the course proved to be first rate as always!
