The Charleston Golf Week
Amateur tour traveled down scenic HWY 61 to try out Legend Oaks new Diamond
Zyozia greens. The course was in great shape and the greens lived up
their hype and provided a great experience for the tour. The following were
the results from each flight.
In the Championship
Flight, Davis Mullany posted a solid round of 75 that included two birdies to
out distance Brooks Harlow and Paul Ponder.
The A flight produced a
strong field playing from the same set of tees as the Championship
flight. Mark Harrison, visiting from the Hilton Head tour fired a great
round of 75 to finish up four shots ahead of both Chris Petrescue who took
second place in a scorecard playoff and Stephen Kauble.
The B flight produced
some excitement as Denny Miller and Tony Walters both posted solid rounds of 80
and took to the course for a playoff. The first playoff hole was halved
with bogies and then they settled in and made solid pars on holes two and three.
On the fourth Hole each of them tried to give the victory to the other as the
each missed a good chance to secure victory. It was Tony tapping in for a
6 to claim his second victory in three tournaments. Tim Sumption rounded
out the top three.
In the C flight, Bill
Chick also claimed his second victory on three tournaments by posting a very
nice round of 83 to post a three shot victory over Johnny Stevenson. while
Legend Oaks member Tommy Hunt rounded out the top three with a round of
87.
The D flight saw the red
hot Aaron Chase claim a victory on his home course by posting his low round of
the year with an 86 to easily claim the D flight. Mike Miller continued
his solid play with a smooth 94 and to take second over Cowboy by a shot.
Our next event is going
to be a fun time at Shaw Air Force base in Sumter SC at Carolina Lakes. This is
going to be a combo event with the Columbia tour who are still smarting over
the whooping the Charleston Tour gave them in the November Ryder Cup
Match. We look forward to seeing everyone make this nice little road
trip.
