KIAWAH KLASH!
The Charleston Tour ventured down main road to take on the
recently renovated Oak Point Golf Course. The course was in great condition,
the greens were true and there was some very nice golf played. The weather also cooperated and provided us
with temps in the high sixties with moderate wind.
Champ Flight. Chris Asbell from the Charleston Tour and
Chris Legere from the Hilton head tour battled it all day. They came to the 17th hole
tied. Legere made a rare double bogey on
hole 17 while Asbell made an easy par followed by a birdie on the tough 18thhole. Legere made a par to finish three
shots behind.
A Flight. The was a
lot of drama in the A flight as Step Jones, Fred Dixon and Glenn Powel all had
a share or sole possession of first place in the last three holes. When the 18 holes were finished we had a
three way tie for first place with three rounds of 80. The three headed to hole one to settle things
out. All three had superb drives of 270
yards or more. The second shots is what
separated the three as Glenn put it in position to get up and down and win the
three person playoff.
B Flight. The B flight had a tight race as Jerry mast and
John Saager battled it out for second place.
First place was decided handily as Jace Gause shot a very nice round of
77 to win the flight by 7 shots. Saager’s
double on 17 is what proved to be the difference as Jerry Mast posted an 84 to
John’s 85.
C Flight. Michael
Meena captured his first ever Golf Week Amateur Tour Victory with a very nice
round of 86 to finish two shots ahead of Lyn Rhode (88). Ozzy Osborne and Casey Sullivan both finished
tied for third with rounds of 90. Ozzy
took home third place money with a scorecard playoff victory over Casey.
D Flight. Michael miller captured his first victory of the
season with a very nice round of 87, easily his best of the year to beat the
field. Steve Soderland who played as a
guest came in second two shots back while Eastern Tour’s steady John Davis
posted a solid 93 to secure third place.
Overall it was a great event, pace of play was superb! Our next event is sold out with a wait
list. Two week after that (Apr 21) will
be our Crowfiled Social. We will tee off
at 10:30 and scoring, food, and refreshments will be served at my house by hole
number one green following the tournament.
